Well, it looks as if I will be in Tampa more long-term than I originally anticipated. I talked with a professor at the school I want to go to, and the fine arts photography series takes 7 semesters to complete, and they are not offered during the summer. Woo hoo, 4 more years in Tampa.
It should be fun though. I've got all my Gen. Ed. requirements out of the way, so I can concentrate on art, art and more art.
I saw a very cool photo exhibit today... all about the Magdelen Laundries in 19th century Ireland. Apparently, women who got into trouble with the law or were labeled 'immoral', were handed over to the nuns of the Magdelen Church, and spent the remainder of their lives in forced labor as washerwomen. The exhibit was based on the idea that the dreams and fantasies of the women slowly became indelibly imprinted on the linens they washed over and over and over. The artist used polaroid lifts of blurry images of women, pictures of the women's diaries, and symbolic imagery of the women's fantasies, printed on discarded linens to represent the dreams of these lost women. To complete the effect, whispered conversations in Gaelic were recorded, and play when you get near one of the sheets. Makes for a rather creepy, ghostly feeling. I was impressed.
