Well in addition to being out of touch SG wise, it turns out I've been WAY out of touch election wise. Colorado has a constitutional amendment (Number 48) on the ballot to Define a Person as any human from the moment of fertilization. In addition to banning abortion as a form of first degree murder it would have the far reaching consequences of rendering every woman of childbearing age automatically inferior. The right to privacy, medical, personal, and social would be subject to interpretation. And any republicans who vote for it would immediately divest their ties to the republican party because it would bloat the government and legal systems with new paperwork, offices and massive, drawn out legal battles over the constitutionality of the ammendment but also the far reaching effects of every person who has ever been conceived sic every person being 9 months older and having possibly been denied their right for those nine months.
I'm fuming about the whole thing.
Not to mention the fact that there is also an amendment to include the vocabulary "Preferential treatment" to the state's affirmative action amendment. Not only is it unnecessary because the term discrimination implies preference. It would FURTHER tie up our legal system with MORE affirmative action cases.
On a lesser note, The amendments to labor laws and casino laws a similarly annoying...
The labor amendment would prohibit mandatory labor union membership and dues but contains no clause that stipulates that anybody who does not belong to the union or pay the dues will also not receive the benefits of the union's representation.
And Extending the hours and types of games available in the gambling destinations of Colorado. Which basically allows the casinos to take more of their gamblers money, with tax benefits to the state of course. Sure, roulette and craps would be great for both the casinos and the state, especially when increasing the max bets to 100 dollars...The two games and, with the exception of slot machines, the most favorable to the house. So the casinos win, the state wins but the gamblers lose...substantially. And I've never heard of a gambler who did it to improve the states tax revenue.
I feel like a loser not knowing about these until I got the booklet.
