Today after class I went to the equipment check out station. I had a lighting kit singed out for the weekend and it was near the end of the day on Tuesday so I asked if I could just take the kit home now instead of driving 20 miles tomorrow morning back to school just to pick it up. I was told that I could not do this since the school police prohibits checking out equipment for more than 3 days. I explained that I had it checked out for Friday though Monday and it was the end of the day Thursday and no one was using it so why would it matter? The lab aid explained that I had it checked out for Friday PM so they needed the light kit there on the off chance that a student would want to check it out Friday at 9am when the building opens, drive home, shoot a 3 hour assignment, drive back to the school and have it back by Noon when the kit would then be rightfully mine. While the odds of this happening are remote and the fact that there are more lighting kits available for check out than there are students in the lighting class her logic failed convince me. As is the case usually with me I made no effort to hide my contempt at this situation as I will be out an hour drive and a gallon of gas for absolutely no reason. Giving up my argument I started to say thats really stupid but half way though the word stupid realizing I was in the present of a professor I respect I decided to change stupid to silly. The professor turned to me and smiled as she said its ok, you can say stupid, we all think the rule is stupid. I love honest teachers.
