Business was really slow, so I got to spend a lot of the day at work today doing some writing about some stuff on my mind. I hadn't had a good, in-depth talk with myself in a bit, and I dug in and told myself/made myself more consciously aware of a lot of things I'm thinking and feeling that were more at the back of my mind than the front. I'm feeling much more clear and in balance for taking the time to do that.
Meanwhile, I was antsy to have the work day be over because I was eager to get to my first day of the handgun class.
The class was cool. Lots of information about how the mechanics of various types of guns work. Loading, unloading, parts, safety rules. We got a book that pretty much contains all the info, so I don't have to take frantic notes to remember the important stuff. I wrote down a few things the instructor said though. It's an NRA class, so he's giving us their propaganda in his very soft-spoken way. Always interests me to observe things like that. We didn't end up shooting tonight. Sounds like we shoot the 3rd and 4th class, and maybe the 5th also. I'm well-satisfied with the information so far. I feel like the class is going to give me exactly what I was hoping, so I feel like it was worth paying for.
I'm still really tired, from the couple of nights lately when I had almost no sleep. I had some dinner, and for the rest of my evening, I would like to zone for a while here in front of the computer, then get to the gym a while later, then get to sleep at a decent hour. Never certain though, when I'm somewhat behind on sleep, if I'm going to crash early, or be a little insomniac and be up pretty late.

This class is apparently the certification you need to get a concealed-carry permit. As for just owning a gun, at least here, if you're ok on the background check (no criminal record...), there's not even a waiting period to buy a gun. As for owning one though, which I may end up doing, to me that's all the more reason to want to know how to be safe with it, maintain it, etc.
Anyway, this class I'm taking is called "Basic Pistol and Personal Defense," and it's a standard NRA course, so I guess if you're interested, you could contact a firing range or NRA chapter, and go for it.
