So today we had a session with one of our regular band clients. These guys are a good band, really funny songs, and getting close to finished tracking their album.
Just one problem. For a good couple of hours today, they were tracking bass parts. This is not the part that's the problem. The whole time they were tracking bass, the drummer was sitting in the chair next to me at the console. This is not the part that's the problem either. The problem was that while we were tracking bass, the drummer, sitting next to me as I set tones and levels and did punch-ins, was PLAYING ALONG ON AN ACOUSTIC BASS.
In case I need to explain... very distracting, hard to concentrate, not to mention hard to hear the actual bass player's tones and parts to make sure the recording was getting down clean.
Don't people realize that it's their own music they are hurting when they do stuff like this in the studio? Apparently not, either that or they obviously don't care.
In other news today, "we have learned that the racial hatred has been going on for a long time."
Yes, this was a tv news headline, talking about prison gang violence between latinos and blacks.
Also, the same news program featured a story about "hidden messages" in music, that you can hear when you play the music backwards. Granted, they used an example of an Eminem song and a Britney Spears song (that played backwards says, "sleep with me, I'm not too young!") in the story. But the intro example was "Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen. Very up-to-date this station is!
