Well, wound up antique browsing in Hudson, NY and otherwise tramping around the Catskill region. No reunion-ing.
Apparently I am just not HS reunion material. I asked myself, "Just why am I going to this thing?" All I got in answer was my own blank stare. So I said, "Lay in a course for out-a-here, Mr. Sulu."
The Green and Columbia county area is remarkable. The antiques in Hudson are only extraordinarily outrageously pricey. Several dealers in "modern" furniture from the oh, so tasteful 60's have a rather high opinion of the value of their wares as well. Still, it was pleasant distraction, relaxing.
Found an excellent roadside stand with wonderful fresh veggies. They had excellent sweet corn, fine fresh tomatoes, zucchini the size of a Prius, eggplant the size of a water melon, and water melon the size of, well, water melon. All very tasty.
Life proceeds.
On the #2 train headed uptown to home this evening--the hardest thing to accept is that there is no reason for it all--train and passengers, men, women and microbes hurtling through clouds of subatomic chaos, oblivious, indifferent. It is entirely possible that causality is a comforting prejudice not an operating principle.
So it goes.
Might as well just be glad to be.
