Just love the following quote from Kevin J. Martin, the chairman of the F.C.C, which he made following the recent court ruling striking down the government policy that allows stations and networks to be fined if they broadcast shows containing obscene language.
Mr. Martin said that if the agency was unable to prohibit some vulgarities during prime time, "Hollywood will be able to say anything they want, whenever they want."
As reported by the New York Times, 4 June 2007.
Have I missed something, or is "able to say anything they want, whenever they want" not a pretty clear and concise definition of free speech? And that has Mr. Martin upset?
Of curse it does.
