Last I posted I thought I was on my way to recovery from my mouth infection and looking forward to relief from the pain and swelling. I couldn't heve been more wrong
By 6 or 7 o'clock last night, I was feeling excrutiating pain beyond anything i'd ever felt in my life. I had double hernia surgery last year less than two weeks after having a biopsy. That was a walk in the park compared to the pain I was feeling last evening.
I called my daughter about 10.00pm and asked her to take me to the ER. By then the right side of my face had swelled up even more. I couldn't even touch my face slightly without feeling indescribable pain. They gave me two doses of morphine through an IV. It had absolutely no effect.
They called two doctors over from the dental department. They decided to make an incision and insert a tube that would start draining some of the fluid from my cheek and from below my chin. Even with novacaine, the poking and probing were so painful that I couldn't take it.
After going back to my room, I was given Percoced on top of the other painkillers I was already given. Finally, the pain was stabilized enough so I could go home. I was given new prescriptions for stronger pain relievers and antibiotics than my dentist gave me the previous morning. I have to go back Wednesday to have the draining tube removed from my mouth. If the infection clears up by Friday, I can probably go through with my scheduled extraction.
They say that a man's worst pain is passing a kidney stone. I've never experienced that, but can't imagine any pain worse than what I experienced yesterday. My daughter stayed with me the whole time and finally was able to take me home about 5:00am, which was six hours after arriving at the ER. This was way beyond any previous physical ordeal i'd ever experienced.
