You'd think that in a city so full of hippies, conservationists, outdoors folk and progressive nature types that we'd be considered a "green" city. Well if we are we don't rank very high on the list. according to a recent article in Popular Science of the 50 greenest cities in the US we don't even break into the top 50. Our "sister cities" of Portland (1) and Austin (10) made it with ease, even such giants as San Francisco (2), Boston (3), Seattle (8), Chicago (9), and even NYC (20)! Oh and if that weren't enough to make you wonder where Asheville was, Greensboro, NC made the list at 50.
So what is Asheville? A tourist city? Nope we turn down any advances to add touristy attractions. A tech city? Nah we reject companies that might be at all tech savoy. A medical city? Perhaps a little but has it really done anything for this town? A manufacturing city? Hell no, BMW has filled upstate South Carolina with jobs and cheap luxary cars. But we didn't want them. A green city? Obviously not, Greensboro beat us on the top 50!!! Asheville isn't really anything but a pretty place voted best place to MOVE to. Damn the people who run this town!!
