If anyone is curious about what medieval nobles ate, it's frequently pretty gross. An example:
"Fasaunt in trayne": A pheasant was plucked, skinned, cooked. Then the skin was put back on and its tail feathers reattached. Et voila, a very coveted dish.
"Roo reversed in purpill": A royal dish. A Roebuck deer was turned inside-out, stuffed, and dyed purple.
