So with my new digi cam Ive begun trying to photo every piece of art of mine t hat I can find. And since Ive just gone through all but 1 of my sketchbooks I thought Id start posting what I consider my favourites in my journal entries. These pieces span back to like grade 9-10 so hopefully youll see some progression in the 4-5 years since then. First up is the earliest stuff, the angsty drawings of a young highschool student, Ive also done some commentary to explain these scribbles:
You can tell that I still wasnt accomplished enough(or I was too lazy) to try and draw two seperate wings so I just overlapped them, which looks pretty contrived. As well Ive never been that good with faces so I took any opportunity I could to obscure them with hair and shadow.
It is kind of weird that I hated drawing faces(and still dont find it th at particularly easy to make one up) but I used to really enjoy drawing the mid part of the face, the upper nose, lower brow and eyes, just because it was always so expressive.
This is one of my older drawings that I liked the most for whatever reason, besides the too narrow upper torso and flat looking feet(amoung other things). I was doing a series of pictures depicting various words, this one was 'scarred'. I believe this is one of the first women I ever attempted to draw. Which is partly why I did it from the back as it seemed easier.
This was one of a series I did illustrating some powers in a larp I used to attend. This one was the ability to turn invisible, and since you cant really draw someone who is completely invisible I took some artistic license. Ive always liked this one for its simplicity, though the face isnt that great, the claws are decent.
This drawing is again due to the aforementioned larp, a character sketch. As you can see the face is almost completely shadowed but for some nose and chin, which I did so I wouldnt have to draw a face which always seem to mess up perfectly satisfactory drawings. He was named Dominic. This one is the latest of all these drawings.
Well this has been a nice walk down memory lane, and much more enjoyable than some of my recent entries. Next time I update, some somewhat more recent stuff!
