What is going on is that the South Dakota State Legislature passed a law baning abortions knowing that under Roe v Wade it is unconstitutional. Eventually it will go to the Supreme Court. The Right Wing is hoping that since that Supreme Court is now packed with conservatives that Roe v Wade will be overturned. If that happpens States would be allowed to ban abortions as it would no longer be considered a right guaranteed under the Constitution.

They are also trying to make crossing state lines for abortions illegal, but this would be difficult. Under the Constitution states have the right to make their own state laws as long as they don't violate the Constitution. So States have a certain amount of freedom. As an example it is not illegal to travel to Vegas to gamble even if gambling is illegal in your state. Still it is a scary thought

While we can't directly change the Justices on the Supreme Court, we can vote against politicians who are against abortion. Bush was basically elected because of the Christian Right. They are organized and they vote. Those of us on the left need to do the same before.
