So I went down to LA on Friday to see The Dreaming and it was interesting. A little shocking at first to see people there to see them and seeing other people with swag. It appears my little band has grown up.
The show was good but not as good as their previous show. My decent contact within the band wasn't having the best of days and I felt sad for him because I could really tell he was going through a tough time. I hung out with the band a little after the show and went to a bar and what not and talked a bit. Christopher Hall is a very laid back guy.
It was a little surprising to me when I went up to their drummer after the show to say hi, the exchange went something like this Me "Oh hey Johnny, good to see you again. You did a really awesome job tonight." Johnny Haro "Oh, hey Jon thanks for coming out" Now this isn't so surprising but I hadn't mentioned my name in that exchange and of the 3 members I've met (the new guy I hadn't met before) I just sort of said hi to Mr. Haro while I actually chatted with Brent and Chris. So it was surprising to me that he recognized me (somehow). I present 2 options a) he remembered my name or b) some other band member said I was coming and he looked me up and recognized my picture. I think it was B, which is cool I am going to try to go to a few more shows really quickly so I can get to hang out with them more outside of a "fan" sort of atmosphere.
The show made me a little sad though because they have a producer now, Toby Wright (he's produced a lot of albums, The Exes, some Korn albums, etc.) and he rearranged and relyricized a few of the songs. The new arrangements and tempos I'm still undecided on, but the new beat and lyrics of Dead to Me I really didn't like. I think he butchered that poor song. Not a bad show but a few things could have been better. Still rocked and I still got to chill with them a bit, I have to keep that up
My stand up class grad show
Loved that Subrosa and 007 showed up beers in tow to check me out. Overall I thought it was a really good show (for us all, the average quality was really good) I thought I did well and it was a little redeeming because my teacher went off on me on Thursday. To make a long story short, I wanted to do new material then but I didn't have any so I thought of some stuff. Some was good, most sucked. I was *supposed* to be doing the set I was going to do on Saturday so he said he wasn't gonna put me on. It sucked, I got upset but convinced him to put me on. He apologized on Saturday then after my show he said, "well, you prooved me wrong" so, good stuff. I am going to take another set of classes, build my material base and then hopefully start climbing the stand up ladder in a few months.
Mood: Confused a little bit, coming down from my strange optimistic bit last week.
Soon the night will take me
and save me from my pain.
Cloak me in cold darkness
and help me lose your name.
Stabbing Westward - Torn Apart
because the band that you went to see is TOTALLY fucking different. I would have gone to the show you went to...but I was not in the mood for that other one.
