So, finally, after years of trying, I finally saw The Dreaming live down in Hollywood. I flew down to Long Beach, hung out and stayed with my ex. Rented a car on Saturday and drove out to Hollywood for the show. A lot of effort you might say for "just a local band" but they are way more than that to me. If I had to do it all over again, I would do the same thing (maybe book in advance to save more flight money).
I get there at 9:30, talk with Brent and Chris briefly. Diego and Johnny had already left to take care of whatever. Since I knew no one there, I staked out a spot right next to the stage and stood there until midnight or so when they finally got on stage. In that two hour or so span, I met some people. Some were fans, some just go to the bar often. Meeting new people is cool. I may soon have MORE people to visit in LA than just Laura (my ex). Not that visiting her is bad, just more friends never hurt.
Anyway, they get up and rock! The acoustics in the venue weren't so hot, but hey I was right next to all the speakers so, awesome. I believe the set went something like (my order may be messed up)
Afraid
Puppet
Disconnected
Eating Me Alive
Always and Never (premiered there at the show)
Dead to Me
Bullet to My Brain (also new, but not premiered there)
Bleed
Let It Burn
Beautiful
Shame (encore)
After the show, I basically chatted with the band a little bit, bought my new hoodie.
I really wanted to stick around and get to meet them some more since they are people I would love to meet. So I helped break down and put away the equipment. I spoke with Brent (bassist) and Christopher (lead singer) the most. Cool people, all of them. I had fun despite being by myself.
That was basically my weekend. Spending some decent time with Laura and having a blast with my favorite band. Not too shabby! How's everyone doing?
Mood: elated
Some nights when it rains
I take out all our pictures
and dance with memories sour now with age.
I wish I could let go
and just walk out of this prison,
the shrine that I have built around my pain.
The Dreaming - Let it Burn
I have a feeling a lot of my little mood lyric snippets will be from The Dreaming in the next few journal entries.
