Seems a couple of you were interested. So first, I think I need to explain where the project came from. I was writing my daily journal entry, the one I began in an effort to develope a habit of writing every day. I decided to explore the feelings that shaped my life, anger, fear, sadness, etc.
Something about that process made me want to share those feelings, to find a way to convey what I felt in the past, what I feel today, to someone else. So, I'm writing a story about it.
All I knew going in is that I wanted to get those feelings across in some way. The loneliness, the isolation, the fear, and the powerlessness.
The story that I'm working on follows a lone survivor in an apocalyptic wasteland, and the voice on the radio that helps him survive. Basically, through a series of events that took place before the story begins, the earth was abandoned by most of humanity. While the rest of humanity went off into space, some were forced to stay behind. Those who remain must contend with periodic meteors/space debris falling to earth, making most of the surface unliveable.
The man was born to a couple who stayed behind. Gradually, he is left alone, abandoned by the group he was with. He survives this way for years, until we meet him where the story begins.
At some point, he will find a working radio, and the person on the other end will begin to talk to him. They will help him to survive, leading him to attempt to cross the meteor zone to find safety and companionship with his new friend.
I'm not entirely sure if I will include anyone else in the story. The threat of other people will be there, but most likely only as a kind of phantom. There are no monsters, no zombies, nothing of the sort. It's just the story of one man's isolation, and learning to trust another person.
Hopefully that gives you at least kind of an idea where I'm at, and where I'm going, with this project. I know it's not a perfect description, but it's very much a work in progress.
