Well shit... I know I was excited that the final project for my international detective class was writing a short story. But honestly, I haven't really put any thought to it yet. Now the professor springs on us that on Tuesday we have to present our detective to the class. This includes a physical description, background info, etc. We also have to talk about the setting of the story, about which I had given absolutely no thought as of this point. Sigh... I usually just start writing and let that sort of thing unfold as it will, but it looks like this time I actually have to plan stuff out.
Okay, I do have an idea of who he is, but it's not complete. My detective is a former antiquities and art thief. So naturally he's going to have plenty of criminal contacts to help him solve the murder of his wife. But what I don't really know is what he looks like, his age, race, nationality, that sort of thing. Nor do I know much about the city (I at least know it's going to be in a city) this is going to take place in.
Side note, my professor is awesome. She's an older woman, at least in her 60's I want to say. Not only is she the reason I'm addicted to detective fiction, but the other day she saw me outside class and stopped me to ask about my shirt, which she apparently makes a point of checking (most likely because they're always geek shirts). It was a Shaun of the Dead shirt which she apparently has herself. She then told me that if it's zombies, vampires, werewolves, etc, she's into it. That was awesome.

I love when a professor really cares about what they do. She seems like a winner and in a world of half-assed instructors she stands out. And she probably needs a raise, lol. I'm glad you're having fun in that class!

Thanx for the love!
