"learned" values, not "taught" values, so to speak ( with rare exception )
some of these include ( obviously? ) :
* respect and honour those who serve and protect the community and uphold the laws and values of our nation
...I will always and without question support the PD, FD, and the laws of our nation before I even consider criminality with no apologies in this regard
while I have had issues with the rare dishonourable PD in my time ( *coughs*FargoPD*coughs* ), I know full well that it's rarer than rare and that it's the criminals pushing the anti-PD rhetoric
outright disobeying laws one "dislikes" is criminal, plain and simple - there are legal ways to change laws
on a side note, I also think it's disturbing to pander to the criminal and legalize something without already having set in stone the appropriate management and UTI laws, if applicable, to said legalization
this also includes the military - having been raised around the military, it became instilled in me the respect and honour one gives to those who rightly and honourably serve(d)
* respect and honour the country in which I live and its flag
...we're a young nation, but a nation worthy of respect and honour - few countries have the freedoms we have here
I can't help but feel an innate dislike for those who disrespect the nation and our flag - if you don't want to be here, then leave... plain and simple - but don't expect to find too many places that even allow you to complain about it
* ALWAYS QUESTION
...strangely enough, I was taught this by a priest after getting kicked out of sunday school for asking questions
while he didn't argue my getting kicked out, he let me read through his library during this time and straight-out told me "always question - we learn by questioning" ( thank you Father Lommel )
* continue to learn every day
...you'd be amazed if you think about it and pay attention, but we can learn something EVERY day
it doesn't have to be a major thing, but even the most minute thing adds to our knowledge and increases our capacity of learning more
I've always been an avid learner, desiring to know more - even if I don't always retain every detail of it * laughs *
* Life is about Living
...a simple thing, but I've been told it sounds complex * smirks * - we're here to Live, so enjoy it ( legally, of course! )
seriously, every day something can be found to make one smile, just as there is always opportunity to make others smile if you look for it
even in the saddest situations, I've gotten friends to laugh - and they've done the same for me
life is too absurd and strange yet beautiful and amazing to let it slide by without Living and Loving it !
* never expect to receive anything I haven't earned
...I suppose I'm unusual in that I am not a person who enjoys receiving gifts without having either already given something or 'earned' it in some way through my hard work or assistance to the parties who 'gifted'
I'm not much of a gift giver, honestly, but that's just an aspect of me people learn about as time goes by... I'd rather give my time or give things randomly than on particular dates or holidays
what little I have, I've earned - through hard work and facing the challenges that life has put in my path
* pushing myself beyond past success(es)
...despite knowing I did my best, I always feel I could do or have done even better and strive to do so to the best of my ability
* being honourable and respectful to others
...the one thing I was taught was to "always lower my eyes before those of equal or greater station than myself"
I've never been one who can easily identify those equal or above, so a habit I had to break was always lowering my eyes before anyone
I know now that this was an absurd thing to be taught, but I still maintain the honour and respect while trying to maintain a modicum of eye contact
I admittedly have a 'bad habit' of trusting people first, but if my trust is dishonoured, then it's hard to earn that trust back !
* needs and necessities come before luxuries
...while this should be obvious, I know and have known far too many that live beyond their means or spend their money then end up begging for assitance for rent/utilities/food/etc
I hate to say, but I have little to no respect for this and simply won't assist others when I know this is the cause of their problems
I've even met people who considered obvious luxuries to be 'needs' and couldn't get them to understand that they ARE more than capable of living without them even if they'd 'always had them'
* serve and assist others when able and volunteer my assistance
...if I see someone in trouble or need of assistance, my innate response to see what I can do to help
while it is rare I can help monetarily, if I can assist in other ways, then I will try my damndest
I spent years volunteering and enjoyed the majority of it - though it's become harder to volunteer in more recent times, both vehicularly and due to lack of opportunities in my area
* be patient and do your research ( "F the mob mentality" )
...I know, it's "not the norm", but it SHOULD be - people today are far too reactionary, immediately "following the crowd"... and then won't apologize or even consider the facts when their immediate reactions proved false
and - yes - this includes the "new norm" of the martyring and raising-up of criminals - I hold zero respect for this as well
yes, horrible things happen and have happened BUT if the crime hadn't occurred in the first place and/or the criminal ran from the PD, then there'd never have been a problem
but this is no reason to raise them up on a pedestal and worship them - they TOO were in the wrong! and I won't pander or acquiesce to supporting the criminal
I feel I've posted about this before ( I probably have ), but it's still true and unlikely to change
Until next posting, my Lovelies & Gentlefolk !

7/9 : yesterday was a fun trip and great time meeting new people - so I'm relaxing and taking it slow so far this morning ( me, taking it slow? * laughs * ) - it's only the 4th day of 6 off for today's 'Big L' after all :) :D
7/11 : yes, we get it - they sell edible thc locally now... the fact that you're so excited about it at work & around the apt complex I should remind you that does NOT make it legal at work nor in the complex where you signed no-drug-use contracts and can be fired/evicted for it...
