it wasn't how I was raised, but learned, unquestionably variety IS the spice of life...
no one is perfect and I love that about life, seeing how each lives or strives to their own personal perfection and goals
I can only gauge/guess that being colourblind was an advantage in how I approach strangers and friends alike - honestly having no idea, let alone care, what race someone is...
aye, this has been a cause of consternation with some
in the past, because they didn't/couldn't believe that I didn't know what race they were ( apologies, can't quite fix colourblindness, sorry )
recently, because apparently saying "colourblind" has become an insult somehow ( is there anything that ISN'T insulting to someone nowadays ? )
...I actually had to explain and defend that I *AM* colourblind, not pretending/just saying/whathaveyou *yeesh*/*sighs* :(
SOMEhow, having lived in MinnKota my entire life, I'm oft surprised met such a wide variety of people - especially from other countries
whether they were here visiting, for business, going to school, etc, I was lucky to meet and befriend them
...such a small world we live in that the upper midwest could be such a haven for the international world !!
Note - I'm talking about before I moved to the Cities for the most part, since moving to the Cities it hasn't been as varied as prior
though - again - I am lucky and honoured to have co-workers and Lodge brothers from various races, nationalities, beliefs, etc as well
my world keeps growing larger, even as friends pass along the years I meet new friends and friends-of-friends that continue to keep my world amazing :) :D
...this hasn't always gone well with everyone - I grew up amongst more than a few racists and bigots, unfortunately
I remember having one helluva conversation with my fathre just a couple years before his passing about his quite racist tendencies ( it ended well, actually and surprisingly )
weirdly, I've had (former-)friends and strangers go off on me, calling *ME* 'racist' and 'bigoted' because of particular statements regarding personal opinions
my personal political beliefs - for example - are completely dependant on the issue at hand...
I'm middle ground over-all, which has PO'd people depending on the conversation and situation
especially recently as I'm a firm believer in upholding the law, that if you don't like the law strive to change it, don't "just" break it, that there are LEGAL means towards everything
ANYways... not going to go down that rabbit hole today :)
to those in my life, I'm honoured to know and have known you... you make my life all the better
as always - Life is about Living, Keep Living and Enjoying Life!
twittage ::
3/6 : mild annoyance / nuisance of the day thus far is that - once again immediately after an overnight snow & drop in temps - there is no hot water... and the new mgmt is complicated to contact & no visual guarantee they received the multi-selection about the issue :(
3/12 : Before 6a, fri morning, single-digit temps w/ negative windchill, & 1st thing I see leaving the apt is a jogger - in shorts! - slip on the icy sidewalk ... the hell ? They lose a bet ? Killer ninja game of truth or dare ? Or just MN insanity ?!?
3/24 : I can only be me - the man that I am & always have been - BUT every day I strive to be the best me that I can be, be it for myself, my family, my friends I consider family, & everyone I may happen to come across that day, I want to be the best me that I am
3/30 : apologies, changing plans tonight as suddenly exhausted, barely able to stay awake... don't want to be ill like last Fri, so going to relax, rest, & get myself back up to speed - EOM tomorrow & can't be ill for that, far too much to do... again, apologies for tonight
3/31 : As one w/ extreme & varied food allergies, eating out w/ others *can* be a challenge, but one learns 1) it's not about you, but the company, you can always eat later, 2) to politely decline even insistent hosts, 3) be prepared as some people *will* be offended or "disbelieve"
4/6 : Political stances to follow *you've been warned* ::
No, I do not agree w/ cancelling student debt UNLESS it includes full debt repayment to those who did pay their debts ( only fair )
No, I do not agree w/ mj legalization UNLESS it includes full & applicable UTI laws relating
4/12 : In a 'mere' 4wks will be waking up along the Washington Channel to my 1st full day of ~2wks in DC ! A trip I had initially semi-planned w/ my father in mind a couple yrs before his passing (as well as future Poland trip), so he'll be w/ me in heart & mind, since not in body
