yes, I still have hopes I can do my Great Lakes-Ontario roadtrip
...but if the border doesn't open & places along the lakes Ontario-side don't open, well... that'll put a li'l hamper on that direction of travel
( there's always next year? )
IF I have to shift directions, south-westward is the most likely - avoiding big cities, as usual :)
...with the hopes, of course, that National Parks would open up & the like - else it'll put even a further damper on where to go
"why avoid big cities?"
* simple, if I want to travel to a big city ( which some I do ), I'd fly there & walk/wander around to see the sights
driving in a big city area ?? yeah - no thanks
when I Roadtrip I'm a random wanderer, parking/sleeping in rest areas/parks/etc
taking intriguing routes with engaging sights to see along the way...
driving in a city I'd get none of that - and be so focused on the traffic around me I'd miss the world outside the vehicle's walls
"why not reschedule?"
* easy, I have vacation time to use up before it resets in September... and this trip won't even use up all my time !
I only Roadtrip between April & August, since they're the only decent months to do so ( though April's become colder these past few years :( )
it's cheaper for me to Roadtrip than to fly - although, yes, I absolutely LOVED my O'ahu/Hawai'i trip last year, it was a record expense for yearly vaca !
( kinda hard to fly somewhere & just stay random places - I'd HAVE to have hotel(s) booked, etc )
ALSO... this years' weeks 'tween April & August ended up so weirdly organized that this was the only time I could do two weeks off in a row
so, to "reschedule" for sometime before September but after June just wouldn't work
- and I'm NOT about to drive myself certifiably apeshit by doing 3 day weekends for multiple weekends/months in a row *deep sigh*
it's bad enough I'll probably have to do that with the time not used after this Roadtrip !
ANYways... my internet has been having 'technical difficulties' since yesterday post-work...
have a service technician stopping by tomorrow afternoon
...it's weird as all get out - I'll have a connection for hours, even though my modem/connection tells me I'm not connected...
then I'll have nothing for several more hours :(
even the guy I was on the phone with yesterday who played with the modem thought it was strange
and there's no reported outages in my area ... a different suburb a few suburbs away, but not in my neck-o'-the-Cities
*ponders*
ANYways ... again ... hope everyone's surviving the strangeness & still Living & Loving Life !
multiple weeks' twittage ::
4/6 : turn on the tv & suddenly hear, as I'm turning away, "...that's 3 inches of wonderful" - have no idea WHAT the commercial was for, as it ended, but - Oi! it had me laughing my bleedin' head off :D that's what I call timing :D
4/7 : mmm-kay then... according to the news this am, according to the state the 2.5$billion surplus is likely gone - this is in less than 3 months! and - no surprise - they didn't say WHAT it got spent on *ponders* ... just like prior two years' surpluses >:( isn't that nice of 'em?
4/8 : intended to post last night, but nigh forgot : FYI, for those such as I that walk everywhere - fast food whose drive-thrus are still open will NOT let you order through the drive-thru ::
"sir, you need to be in a vehicle"
I don't have a vehicle
"you can order delivery"
4/17 : "What've you been reading recently?"
The Autobiography of Theodore Roosevelt
"Oh yeah? Who wrote that?"
[stares]
"What...?"
4/17 II : *ugh* not only does the hallway reek of *gags* pizza & fish, it reeks of burned pizza & fish ... ah, the 'perks' of living in an apartment complex, trying not to breathe when in the hallways *deep sigh/gags*
4/17 III : no apologies will be given for walking down the hallway of the apartment building going to my apartment after you yell at me for "being in the way" because you're "shooting pics" there... a mere foot from the no loitering & keep hallways clear signs >:( Not Fucking Sorry At All
EDIT: *laughs madly* - call me an asshole if you like, but I'm amused as all hell because one of my neighbours called the PD on the people taking photos in the middle of the hallway that were yelling at everyone - it appears they don't even LIVE here but are someone's friggin' guests!
4/22 : yes, it's gonna get up to 70 today ... but, no, it's not going to last ( yet ), quite unfortunately we've still got cold temps on the horizon ( what? it's only april, stop calling it "spring," demn it, the lows are still going below 50, that's not "spring" ) >:(
4/22 II : more shocked than amused, listening to the guy who picks up the complex's recycle bin go on a major rant... someone in the complex was ballsy enough to stuff a large, cracked, widescreen tv into the recycle bin ( which was slightly less wide than the bin itself ! ) - humans, Oi!
4/23 : freedom doesn't mean you GET things for free, it means you're free to make (legal) choices - if you make ignorant (or illegal) choices, then you face the consequences, you are responsible for the repercussions, & you should expect to be called out to face the aforementioned- YOU
4/23 II : while shopping, 30+yr old w/ his seemingly-elderly mother "mom, mom, mom, MOM, I need THESE..." [waves arms around an energy drink display] "OH MY GOD, Mooom, they have coffee now, COFFEE, MOM! mom, mom, mom, are you listening? Moooom, come back!"
4/24 : complaining resolves nothing. protesting resolves nothing if not supported/preceded by measures to support what you're protesting about. find like-minded individuals, each & together contact your governor/congressmen/president w/ your suggestions, supported by facts & evidence
(cont.) ...and, for f's sake, IF you MUST protest, do so legally, in locations that correspond to the issue ( legally - not on someone's private land/property !! ), have your supporting facts & evidence at hand/available, do nothing illegal during said protest or allow others to
4/24 II : why, yes, I did eat 6 croissants at work today & yes, I had 20 piece nuggets & large fries the other day at work ... what? don't act like you've never been hungry!
and, no, that isn't "a lot" for me - though I normally don't eat at work, this week I've been hungrier than usual
4/28 : "what kind of a-hole would call the cops on someone just because they were breaking the law?"
it'd be kind of awkward to be calling the PD on someone who WASN'T breaking the law, so... yeah...
4/30 : from the news this am : "some are concerned how returning to work may affect their unemployment benefits" ... uhm, well, if you're employed, you shouldn't BE receiving UNemployment *yeesh* - seriously, THIS is why they should've based the rush-unemployment on income *deep sigh*

@infernum I've done all my traveling alone ( with only two exceptions in my lifetime ) - I only started doing my yearly roadtrips about 6yrs ago... it's been amazing, picking a random direction each time, no plans other than paying attention to when I need to return the car rental by :) - funny enough, everywhere I've gone, I've ended up knowing someone where I went that I hadn't seen in years ( and had no idea they lived there! ) - crazy odds! If I do get to do my Great Lakes-Ontario "plan," I don't think I know anyone I've met before in canada, so would be the first time :)
wolfox:
@infernum the two exceptions to traveling alone weren't roadtrips - so I'm still 100% on that one *laughs*
