personalities, races, nationalities, body types, mental types, abilities & disabilities, social 'status,' beliefs - and lack thereof, etc etc
the majority of my friends I've met in - or within a mile of - Minnesota ... many whom were only in the state a short time :)
which has led - wonderfully! - to knowing people not only nationwide but internationally !
there are some I've known for years ( as opposed others I've known for years I only consider 'people I happen to know'/acquaintances )
there are some I've only met once in my life - or twice in recent years ;)
there are even some I've YET to meet, but've "spoken to" online and wouldn't consider anything other than a friend :)
there are even a few I consider Family, having zero blood relation
some I feel closer to than others, but I strive to be Honest with each & every Friend - a core expectation I have from them as well
( not that they or I need to know every little thing, but if Asked, I will Answer Honestly )
AND they are ALL my friends...
...even if we don't agree on everything - which I think is a good thing, one should never only know people the same as themselves !
...even knowing that if I had them all in one room, there'd likely be a fight or three ( verbal AND physical! )
even with all these differences - amongst each other as well as compared to myself - SOMEthing about them made them a friend
so, what makes one a friend vs just a 'person I happen to know?'
well... it's different for each & every one
with some it was immediate, unquestionable, that they'd become a friend - something 'triggered' that I considered them as such then & there
others 'earned' their way to friendship via a variety of things - things said, things done, shared moments of import ( major or minor ), shared likes & experiences, etc
there are people I've met recently that may become friends as well ( I hope ), for a variety of reasons
there is no One Thing/Path To Friendship with me...
and it's rare that any two friends are the same with me, though some may share ideals, traits, etc - there are always differences
which, to me, is a Great Thing
as already stated, I don't agree with each & every one on each & every thing... some I vehemently disagree with...
but - in my opinion - that's one of the Great Things about Friendship...
through differences & disagreements you remain Friends
no, this hasn't always been the case - people I thought of as friends suddenly 'cut me off' because they disagreed with something I believed in
*shrugs* - no worries, as it merely proved they weren't the Friend I thought they were
- not Truly, if that's all it took for them was disagreeing on something *scoffs*
nonetheless - Friendship IS important to me & my Life ... always has been
I've been lucky to have a multitude of Friends over the years
- even with the - sadly :( - large number that've passed on along the years, I still have so many it's almost scary ;)
even though I see so few of them other than once every 5-10/10-20yrs, as time passes by, with most it picks right up again when next we meet/see each other
ANYways... here's to my Friends & Friends-To-Be - you all have, and always will have, a place with me...

1/31 : ...and, no, the irony has not escaped me that throughout the week I've had coughing fits from choking on a cough drop :(
2/5 : "Obamacare didn't cost 5 billion" - a minimum of 5mil people, like myself, couldn't afford insurance so had taxes taken from us over the 5yrs the N0bamacare BS Fee applied, of at least 2$K ... which = at least 10 billion, so - yeah, it didn't cost 5 billion, it cost FAR more !
2/8 : yes, I admit I'm still not 'tech-advantaged' as most ... I'm so not used to using my smrtphone as much as I'd had to lately that my usual only needing to charge twice a week isn't cutting it... so, yeah, it's died more than once a week since the uptic in usage *laughs*/*shrugs*
2/13 : Negative temps NOT counting the brutal wind blowing, even multi-layered froze walking to work - and mid-sidewalk I'm passed by some kid wearing SHORTS ... wtf is wrong w/ people ?!?
2/13 II : methinks someone ordered an entire APARTMENT - poor UPS guy had SEVENTEEN boxes he had to bring up to an apartment, the smallest the size of a college mini-fridge ! and then the lady had the balls to say "could you hurry, I have a party to go to..." >:(

2/24 : In the Cities for 6,936 days - almost 19yrs ! - *whew* where has the time gone, so VERY much has happened in that time, so many people come & gone...
2/27 : 19yrs today I've been in this area they call 'the Cities' ... 2001, which ended up being quite the crazy/sad year in the end ... and the longest I've lived in any one area, with more years to come...!
