Howdy y'all!
Back from Montana via Yellowstone and Les Tetons Grande. Great trip. Fantastic wedding. Played with a grizzly for about 15 to 20 minutes. (play = watched from a distance). See Pic.
Need to go take a shower and wash the blood off . I took my first ambulance ride last night. It was everything and nothing like I thought it would be. It was my paramedic's (the one who rode in the back with me) first night on the job. He did well. See, got back from the road trip on Thursday morning at 4am. Kev and I had spent the day driving after jaunting around a bit too long (yet not nearly long enough) in Yellystone und Tet's. Made it to work on time despite hardly any sleep. Then I had a late night hockey game 9:15 to 10:15. Great game. We got our asses kicked, but we had a blast. Super short bench... only two players on the bench, so it was enduro skate... hardly any rest. Hell our defense played the whole game solid. Only rest for them was a whistle. We lost quite a few of our skilled players as they were forced to move up to the next level in the league. So now, amazingly, I'm a veteran on the team. This is a new kind of pressure in a way because I need to step it up. We staved off a shut out against us in the last 1:20 of the third when I ended up on a breakaway and somehow got it past the goalie on his poke check. Listen to me gloat... 'yay me'. Anyways, back to the saga...
So I was pretty exhausted at the end of the evening. In the morning I just couldn't bring myself to get up and go to work. Feeling super shot out. I emailed in sick. (don't even have to fake a cough in the digital age.) This was also the day I started back on limiting my carbs. (been real decadent lately and packed on a few pounds) Later that evening I drove to Ma's house to pick up the boys. While I was there I grabbed a small bite to eat. Ma was watching this show about the kid who was hiking in SE Utah and self-amputated his arm after it was pinned by a boulder for many days. He was going through the whole event in pretty amazing detail. I was gnoshing on a bit of watermelon and feeling that super sweet glucose sugar in my stomach and I started to feel some dizziness into vertigo. I sat down and mentioned to Ma that I felt pretty much like I did the last time I passed out. (Only other time was when I gave blood at work. Three of us went out that day.) She's talking to me asking me if I need water and whatnot and I'm just trying to ride it out. Then, I slip into a dream. I can't remember what it was, but it was nice and peaceful. Then the next thing I know I'm on the floor feeling my head and I can feel my actual skull. (insert big "Ewwwwww" here.) Ma is standing over me and the light comes on. I see a large pool of blood on the floor next to me. When I passed out I fell back and sheared a brass knob off a built in wood cabinet with my noggin. Ma is freaking out a bit when she sees the size of the gash and the amount of blood. I'm white as a sheet apparently. I've got the flushed cold sweats kicking hard core. She says we have to go to the emergency room. I don't disagree. But then she says she needs help so she's going to call an ambulance. I kinda protest a bit thinking we can drive there, but then I start thinking about all the blood in her truck and figure the ambulance bill will cost about as much as cleaning the truck. ;-)
So she's on the phone with 911 kinda freaking and I'm trying to calm her down. (it's weird to hear yourself talked about in an emergency situation) Fire and Paramedics show and get some fluids in me via an IV. I guess my blood pressure was super low at this point. 80 over yada, they told me my body was in shock at the moment.. Long and short of it is that I was super-meyah dehydrated and that's what caused the blackout. Got a few stitches in my cheek and a butt load of staples in my head. My gash is pretty long... on the left side of my head from the top serpentining all the way down to my ear. All in all an interesting experience. While he didn't recommend it, the Doc said I could probably get by with playing hockey tomorrow morning. So that's killer. Today is chill day. Movies... bong... percocet... lot's of water. Love it.
Oh yeah happy "Patriot's Day". What the fuck is that shit?
