ants have retreated. It hasn't rained for about two days so they don't want my dry ground anymore. the living room is mine again!

Nah! They didn't retreat, being an Emperor and good friends with their Queen put me in a position to ask a favor of her. I told her that the ants were bothering you and for her to order them to leave you alone or I would bring about the systematic and complete destruction of her entire ant empire...
