I had a thought last night. Let's say that humanity devided into several camps on the whoel space question. Some went for terrafroming. Some went for genetic manipulation to created humans that coudl survive different environments. Some genetically modified non human life for other planets. And on and on for however many ideas could be explored.
Let's say that billions of years from now life has expanded throughout the universe and during that time we never discovered any competing life.
I would think that at that time on some distant planet two scientist may be discussing life. One will say that all life originated on a single planet. The other will say that is preposterous! you are suggesting that all the myriad examples of life started with a mere few billion examples of life on one tiny insignificant planet in the middle of nowhere?
This struck me as funny because many people argue over this same topic when it is suggested that life squirmed out of the ooze.
