Perched atop the cross much like it was perched atop the mountain the shadow sat and gazed up at the stars. Small and wiry, lost even among the lights that surrounded him, all but invisible to even the few late night strollers below him.
Oh how I wish I could become a shadow in truth some times. The little old man who sat there rapped in shadow whispered out into the night. But since I cant fade form the world yet I guess its time to go out and deal with it again. He jumped down landing lightly on his feet and hands in pocket began to wander down the mountain, avoiding and avoided by the youngster and old couples wandering around. While he wandered down toward St Catherines, bleak thoughts filled his head.
Every city on the earth these days has got people who dont really exist. The homeless and down and out, The drifters whos situation has forced them onto the streets, those who are running form something, paranoid, wither some ones really after them or not, and just wan tot drop off the radar of the world. He was one of them, living on the edge of society, by choice, not even those few considered his friends new what his name was. Most people called him Thomas Saint, partly as a joke. He was a rarity. One of the few who wouldnt touch the booze let alone anything harder.
God, am I depressing tonight. He announced to the universe as, still invisible within the shadows, he passed an old couple.

Did you hear something? The elderly Mr. Dojin asked of his wife looking around.
You didnt take your medication again. She stopped walking to scowl at him.
I did too.
Dont take that tone of voice with me! Get the bottle out, I want to count them..

Lost in his own thought Thomas barely noticed the group waiting for him half way down the stairs to Guy street, until he almost ran into them. It was only when he tried to move around that he realized they were waiting for him.
Your presence is required, come with us. Said the one right in front of him. Something in the voice made Thomas look up. Up to meet the animal eye starring down at him. Oh yah, that was definitely a growl in his voice.
Than he checked and the energy coming off all of them sent a shiver down every nerve in and raised every hair on his body. As he looked at the leader standing right in front of him, he pulled what meager energy reached him from the neon haven of the strip beyond the pack. He could feel others coming from behind circling round till he was surrounded.
Are you sure you have the right person, Ive never seen you before in my life and I have no idea what your talking about.
Theres no mistake, Little man, Said the leader, the growl growing stronger as he spoke, we were sent to find you and bring you back
Thomas eyes were drawn to the leader as this thick liquid oozed across his arms, and desperately tried to pull more of the city ambient power to him.
Im sorry, but I rather not
With a growl the leader reached a clawed and fury arm out to grab him the others moved to make sure he had no were to run.
Fuck was all Thomas had to say as a surge of pure energy blew out all the surrounding lights turning the area into a dim shadowed place and covering the pack around him in glass. Distracting them enough for the little man to sprint out between them and take off towards the downtown lights ahead.

Sigh
Lady?
Youd better go Merr. Your husband resorts to brute force too easily.
Shall I bring him straight home?
Yes, and send Thomas to me, I should be alright to finish up. Go before some one gets killed.
Of course, my Lady

Dear Godhuff For your informationpuff.. Just incase you missed it huff I said I was depressing puff, huff, puff THIS IS NOT HELPING!
Thomas ran through the streets taking the side streets and back allies as the pack of were-wolves crashed along behind him. Recognizing a passing bit of graffiti he turned down a dead end ally and with out slowing down slammed him self into a steel door in the wall half way down. Much to his annoyance the door did not open, with out a bit of convincing, opening just as the first of his pursuers turned the corner behind him. Thomas ran down the stairs through the tangle of pipes and cable in the service area of the building and opened the door hidden behind an electrical panel. Leaving it open to make it easier to find he rested for a breath to make sure that some one was actually home ahead before taking off again.
This time as the pack of wear-wolves caught up to him and he took off, he had a smile on his face. The hall opened up in to a room where half a dozen people half way ready to go to sleep for the day, were quickly arming them selves to deal with the intruders, Thomas entered the room with the first of them on his heels, and managed to make it though and out the door on the other side of the room Before anyone had a chance to grab him. As he sped up the stairs he could hear a giant melee developing behind him.
Knew those damn night crawlers were good for something. He whispered as he exited in another ally on the other side of the building. And turned away from the dead end towards the exit.
That wasnt very nice little man said a Voice ahead of him.
