So... I am starting a new job on Monday!

Unfortunately the first one didn't work out the way I had hoped. I have been working at a hospital in the midcities... about 27 miles from home. The distance would have been completely worth it if I was learning and experiencing what I was hoping. On the up side, I was experiencing doing therapy and evaluations of a very wide variety of patients in acute care, inpatient rehab, and outpatient. On the downside, I'm a brand new, fresh out of school therapist, and my supervisor/mentor *never* observed me during therapy until 3 months in, after I had already taken the new job. So here I am, being the sole caretaker (speech/swallowing/cognition-wise) for people in rehab fresh out of strokes/falls, doing therapy and making decisions about whether they're safe to go home or not, and I have no idea what I'm doing and have very little guidance.

I think it would have been a great job, but - not for me and my experience level right now. So... I got a job that's a little bit more focused so I can build my confidence and skills in a more specific area rather than feeling completely incompetent and retarded in all areas.

I'm going to be doing voice therapy for a small non-profit organization near my neighborhood that treats almost exclusively Parkinson patients to help maintain their speech and swallowing skills throughout the course of the disease. Its a great little organization and I know all the therapists already, and I really like them. Plus I get my own office!

Wow ... now I understand what you were saying about the other job. You'd think they would have given you a lot more support in a position like that. That must've been stressful and frustrating as all hell.

That said, the new job sounds awesomely perfect and I love your office! I'm sure you'll do very well and really make a tremendous impact on your clients.

PS - I also love the New Year's pics! You look like you might be a little bit tipsy in that first one. wink
