I just had one of the most exciting days I've had in a while. Which is not saying a whole lot, but still!
I took a master class with 2 castmembers of Chicago (the musical, not the band), learning a portion of the actual choreography from the show. SQUEE.
Mr. Lenny Daniel and Mr. Christophe Cabellero taught us part of the opening number, "All That Jazz." And it rocked. AND I wasn't the oldest bitch there, which made me feel a lot better (though the vast majority of the crowd belonged in the 16-and-under catagory). Nor was I the worst dancer, which also made me feel loads better.
We learned about the Bob Fosse nuances, spirit fingers (for real!), and rotating our hips all provocatively.
Ever since I started dancing again when I was 19, I knew that I'd found my passion again. I had lost it for a while, unfortunately, because I think that if I had caught the same fire when I was 5 or 6 years younger, I might be doing what the lovely Mr. Daniel and Mr. Cabellero are doing now, instead of going to grad school. And don't get me wrong, I am interested in my field of study, but I am certainly not passionate about it. You'll be much more likely to find me reading a biography of Gillian Murphy or Allegra Kent than the Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences.
Youth is wasted on all you young people.
