just learned.
fire at main and broadway
seems that around four am a fire started at kishu island at main and broadway in vancouver and then spread to an insurance company, lugz [a coffee shop recently sold], slickety jim's chat & chew [a highly regarded breakfast/lunch operation know for it's delicious food and ecclectic vintage pop art decor]
ugh, my heart hurts and my stomach. slickety jim's was fantastic. it was cramped with fantastic food with hilarious names plus the decor was unbelievable. it was dreamy. i had my first date with keri here before we went to play bingo. there was always a line and every time i've gone there i've had a hilarious experience. i remember seeing them closing at night and they were always playing loud music and smoking behind the bar.
slickety jim's owner briefly interviewed.
no more breakfast there i guess. i just wonder what the street will look like now that all these businesses have burned down there. it's one of the busiest intersections in vancouver as well. it's a block away from kingsway and there are three major bus routes that stop at this intersection.
i guess we'll see what happens.
in other news. i have been very uninspired lately and have just started to feel creative for the first time in months.
i have been crocheting:
and i have been drawing a lot more. i started work on my large cloud drawing again. you may have seen it before:
and i have been working on smaller drawings as well. i've also started writing again which is great because i have notebooks to fill! i've been feeling good about this.
because of this urge to write i finally went to the letter writing club hosted at the regional assembly of text.
this is my favorite store in vancouver and on the first thursday of every month they host a letter writing club from 7-9 pm. they have typewriters, stamps, paper, envelopes, tea, cookies, and good music with a great atmosphere.
you should go! if you live in vancouver or maybe start your own letter writing club wherever you live. it's so nice to receive letters in the mail. i have stacks of letters sent to me from various people in various places. i could send letters to people on sg [which i've been meaning to do anyway, getting on it!] if anyone's into that idea let me know.
now i have pen pals here in vancouver, israel, and los angeles. exciting.
now off to the ocean to write and draw and sail away.
