So last night I got to see Bauhaus. This concert is something I've dreamed about since I was a teenager, something I never thought would happen because when I discovered them, they weren't touring, or even still together.
Presumably, everyone who filled up the sold-out Hollywood Palladium was there because they, too, have loved this band for 30 years, and I was expecting something pretty special.
They sounded incredible. They didn't do much of a stage show beyond some really great lighting tricks, but it's Bauhaus, not Maiden, and there was something incredibly cool about Daniel Ash and David J pretty much standing immobile while they tore through every song you'd hope to hear.
But here's the thing that was such a disappointment: two different 40something dudes near me started full on fist fights, for no discernible reason. We were all, like, SERIOUSLY?! Like, we're all in our late forties, we're at a GOTH show, and these guys are going to be super aggro and belligerent? What the actual fuck?
I'm pretty committed to nonviolence, but I will admit to cheering when the woman next to me landed several punches on this one dude's nose, almost certainly breaking it, after he picked a fight with her because ... I honestly don't know. I think, maybe, he kept crashing into her and she kept asking him to stop, or something like that. Oh, and did I mention that he started this fight during The Passion of Lovers? One of the all-time greatest Bauhaus songs ever recorded, and you're seeing it live, in a small venue, and you're going to spend it having a fucking fight? Consensus after the show is that too much beer and probably something like cocaine was involved in this shitty dude's decision making process.
There's always one asshole at a show, no matter where it is or who the act is. But my god it's fucking BAUHAUS on their probably final tour, playing a show that was added because last month's shows sold out so fast. Tickets were not cheap, and these two adult men chose to behave like children.
Did I mention it was Bauhaus, and not an aggro metal or hardcore band? Did I mention that I didn't see a single person under 35 in the audience?
Aren't we too old for this shit?

We are too old for that shit and that one dude needed to grow up or fuck off. It’s BUAHAUS and i am so jealous you got to see them... they would never come this far north and east
