Unsurprised, but deeply disappointed, that not a single Republican voted for the formal impeachment inquiry in the House, especially after the stunt they pulled earlier this week. Absolutely sickened that two Democrats voted with them. Trump's going to get away with this, and America will solidly become the corrupt, right wing, authoritarian cult of personality Trump's been dreaming of since time began. He's already an autocrat, and we have seen with terrifying clarity that there are a disturbingly high number of elected members of his party who are working as hard as they can to give him the autocracy he wants.
And I wonder ... all of these multimillionaires who are enabling and supporting Trump, McConnell, Nunes, and the rest of them sure seem like they have no patriotism, no concern for America being a sovereign country that stands for something. I'm coming to believe that they view themselves as Stateless, exploiting the laws, resources, and labor of the United States, while they scoop up even more wealth and power, which at this moment is coming incomprehensibly out of Russia, which is an economically weak country. But the Russian mob and the FSB seem to be incomprehensibly powerful and pervasive, and when we look at the behavior of the worst of Trump's enablers in the Congress and the donor class, all roads lead back to Firtash, Deripaska, and ultimately to Putin.
These people in the Republican party, from elected officials to the screeching propagandists in the right wing media world, howled with outrage at those of us who didn't support Bush or his illegal war. They called us all sorts of names. They questioned our love of our country. They suggested that we were a Fifth Column, all because we didn't support a war that everyone knew was based on lies.
Those VERY SAME PEOPLE are now defending and protecting a man who CLEARLY violated his Constitutional oath of office. We now have TEN witnesses who are all telling the same story about his mafia-style shakedown of the president of Ukraine, and these people are STILL supporting and defending him.
It's just sickening, and depressing, and I have lost almost all of my faith in America. I feel like my country is being turned into little more than a bag of consumers to be exploited for the personal profit of a handful of individuals who will strip it for parts, sell what they can, and then leave the entire place dismantled and broken.
Trump really isn't an aberration. He accurately and faithfully reflects the values of the leadership of the Republican party and the billionaires who they work for. (And don't fool yourself for a second; exactly zero republican senators give a flying fuck what their voters, volunteers, and small-dollar donors care about. They care about two things: their own money, and their own power. Trump is EXACTLY who they are. He just says the quiet parts out loud.
And, today, two Democrats decided they wanted to hold hands with them, because what even are values, anyway?
Like I said, it's sickening.
