I've saved up $1,000 dollars which is hard to do on a PhD stipend but now i've got to decide what to do with it. I was originally thinking of spending it on a new tattoo to cover my upper back but now i'm considering using it to update my pilots license. I haven't flown in several years so its going to take a little time to get back upto speed, but apparently a VFR license never really expires i just need to pass a biannual review. 1,000 would give my about 10 hours of flying time which may be just enough to get me proficient again. I bet my dad will also help to subsidise some of the cost so i could get some more hours.
