i spent a day with a friend from back home who lives in beaverton with her husband and 14 month old son. such a relaxing and enjoyable time; the airshow was happening, so there were planes/jets flying overhead, we watched the UFC 87 fights and a little Olympics, but mostly I spent a vast majority of the day entertained by their son Ethan. he's in that discovery stage where everything's new and exciting. he was eating and sharing rocks, smashing his lunch on his tray, was getting soaked by drinking from the garden hose, and rode around the living room a-la MarioCart on his plastic lawn mower thanks to dad....
just made me a little bummed because i have a 16 month old niece 1400 miles away that i've never met who is at the same age. my bro's divorce has complicated his own time with her, but yesterday was a reminder of how difficult that must be for him. i was thinking about how much i enjoyed speding a day witha tyke i'd never met; wonder what it'd be like if i lived around my brother and niece.... i talked to mom on the phone today about his second wedding coming up in November, and how we could be supportive but still not make ourselves miserable by forcing ourselves to do too many "nicey-nice" in-law/stranger shit if at all possible. i don't know if i wanna reprise the best man and be around the opposite side of the familiy stuff a second time; i thought i'd only need to do it once..
...
i love me some Olympics, especially the volleyball and swimming. the 4x100 men's freestyle was soooo close (.08 seconds) and blew the records away by over 3 seconds..... watching events has put a dent into my prep for work.
...it'll be sooooo hard to get back into that groove. only about two more weeks before it's time to go back, and i am not ready at all.
sister's b-day is tomorrow(today), and now all four of us siblings are over 30. geesh...
