Some other good books on actual historical WMDs are:
Underground - Murakami, one of Japan's leading modern authors, turns interviewer to collect the stories of dozens of the Tokyo subway bombing victims.
Unit 731 - describing the history of the Japanese bio-warfare program during World War II. There's much of interest here, like which conquering power got their data and granted them all pardons after the war was over (who else?) and what corporation those members went on to found afterwards.
