Ahoy hoy! Whats poppin? Went to see Mike Doughty on Friday night at the Call in Providence. Awesome show. It was the first time I've seen Mike with a full band since Soul Coughing in 98 or 99. But what a great bunch of musicians he's got. It was much more free-form than his solo shows, suprisingly. But thats a good thing. Firetruck 2K5....never has a song written by a 4 year old sounded so funky! A nice little cat fight almost broke out right in front of me. "I'm not in the mood, so back the fuck off!" Hahaha!
what else....lets see..... i've been listening to a lot of Devendra Banhart lately. The Nino Rojo album is amazing. Real lo-fi, folk music kinda stuff. It was recorded in a cabin in a swamp down south somewhere, and it shows...you can hear crickets and birds chirping in the background. He sounds like a 70 year old black woman trapped in the body of a twentysomething white boy. Nice relaxing summer stuff.
