what a rock-n-roll week this has been. This week I went with EatMyBabies and Bringherheart to see Def Leppard/Journey and Aerosmith/Motley Crue. Both were great shows. On Saturday, Journey were really good..the crowd sang along to every song. Def Leppard sounded much better than the last time i saw them (in 1987...yikes!) They played it smart though...slowed the songs down a bit, so Joe wasn't out of breath and could actually hit the notes.
Thursday was the Crue/Aerosmith. (I also saw both these bands in 1987...the Crue opened for Ozzy, and Aerosmith played with Guns n Roses opening for them. Oh, the drugs that must have been backstage at those shows!). Motley Crue always puts on a good show...even if Vince blows his voice, which was exactally the case this week. He'd sing a line, then let the crowd sing the next 3 lines. Whatever, they still had crazy amounts of shit blowing up, and Tommy Lee and Nikki Sixx are still bad-asses.
Aerosmith have to be one of the best live bands of all time, easily. They make every other band look like amateurs. The set list was great...it wasn't overloaded with ballads and the cheesy pop songs like at past shows. Joe Perry even did "Dirty Water" Sooo cool! In jr/high school, Aerosmith were one of my favorite bands. Then i got burnt out of them..didn't listen to them at all (plus, working in a guitar store pretty much ensured that i didn't want to listen to aerosmith, zeppelin, van halen, or metallica ever again). But now that i've been away awhile, it was good to hear them again. I had forgotten just how much i loved them. It's like being 13 again, except without the crippling shyness and fear of girls.
