i am breathing a bit easier after calling down to florida to check on my father's wellbeing after this recent hurricane... the old scamp and his small craft are just fine and he had just left to return to the boat after weathering the storm inside the office of the local marina... i must make an offering to neptune to show my gratitude...

back to the salt mine..my week birthday vacation is over and so i climb out of bed in the darkness, when all civilized people should be curled up with a kitty (of whatever species).
casper:
haha thanks

salt mine???
wi11iam13:
'salt mine' is a euphemism for work in general...

spent yesterday touring about dresden... once one of europe's most beautiful cities, incinerated by the british and americans in a massive firebombing campaign sixty years ago...parts of the old city have been faithfully reconstructed and while the work is impressive one still feels the city imbued with an irredeemable sadness over the destroyed beauty of a lost world...

i have developed an unseemly compulsion to have a quarter of a pineapple after a long day at work... i need another vice because (to quote Brecht)

"Vices have their point, once you see it as such
Stick to two for one will be too much"

early, preparing for work. naked fresh from the shower making my breakfast i spill the soymilk. the droplets streak across my chest and belly, down to my legs....if only my tongue was long enough, or my spine lithe enough that i could lick it all up... ah but in this world i must content myself with a paper towel....

during my swim at the gym this evening i was pleasantly surprised when a beauty emerged from the sauna, dropped her towel and stood naked for a few moments before slipping into her swimsuit...while i only saw her from the back it was still enough to make me lose count of my laps! i must admit that few things strike me as more beautiful than...

back in Berlin. work in essen und aachen went well, though i worked late last night and missed my return flight. i thought it would be a good idea to take the train east across germany arriving in Berlin just before dawn. Wrong again...what a nightmare. a packed train, full compartment, drunken sports enthusiasts singing team songs all night and a large crowd of retirees...

was hast du denn in aachen so getrieben? hab bis vor kurzem noch da gewohnt.
oder warst du nur zum arbeiten da?
wi11iam13:
nur arbeiten...in holland actually...Heerlen, just across the border...spent all day in a small windowless room withthe fans innumberable infernal computing machines creating a wall of white noise....

aber aachen ist sehr schn...ein kleiner Schmuck...

spent the afternoon with a sexy brazilian biologist, checking out the new picasso show and chatting about gene sequences, fiber optic design and scientific creativity over an early dinner of shrimp and salad... i hope to see her again soon, at which point we can perhaps conduct a few biology experiments of our own...

Hope to the Picasso Show soon, something I dont want to miss. you liked it?
wi11iam13:
the picasso exhibition was quite good, especially for me as i have never really spent much time with picasso (tending to prefer the german expressionists). So the show was a good overview of his life and work - i was impressed that his creative talents and skills surpassed whichever medium or style in which he was working - so that in the end he left a body of work which expresses a unique vision not bound by technique or genre. i hope to return and see it again as well the jorg immendorf show upstairs!
