What do you get when you fall in love? You only get lies, pain, and sorrow."
Some of you frisky kids reach out to Senses Fail, Brand New, or My Chemical Romance to ease yer silly little suffering....you need to go back to suffering school. The realness was laid into stone quite some time ago. Mr. Burt Bacharach penned the little gem above. Mr. Roy Orbison is another man who predates emo by decades and STILL wipes the floor with these melodic hardcore/emocore piss-ants. Even from beyond the grave!!! IN DREAMS and RUNNING SCARED are the definitive lonely guy tunes. I think I'm going to drink myself into the next realm with a solid helping of Roy Orbison and Burt Bacharach. If I haven't passed out, I'll through on some Chris Isaak. Preferably FOREVER BLUE. Another solid depressing pick would be A GIRL CALLED EDDY. Have any of you picked this one up yet? A reviewer described her voice as a dead on combination of Chrissie Hynde and Karen Carpenter. That is as about as perfect a compliment one could receive. The whole album is sublime. Sad, Sad stuff. Perfect for lonely little boys and girls with booze and basements. Maybe I should go out to some random Toledo nightclub and try to pick up some girl? I'm sorry, dealing with Nelly, Lil Jon, Usher and people who enjoy that nonsense is practically unbearable. Unbearable even for sex. Hot coals and Gauntlets are no problem. I can handle that kind of pain. I will not deal with Juvenile and his SLOW MOTION jiggle jams to get some love and attention.
"No hope. No harm. Just another false alarm."
Hell, I'm going to sit back, read some books, listen to some free jazz, and drink moderately. Feel free to mail me painkillers and other happy pills. They will work nicely with this Archie Shepp "Four For Trane" LP. Hey, there is some good news over in my life. I bought a bunch of CDS and records today!
Sam Cooke "I Thank God" LP
Jacques Brel collection on DRG Records
Zombi "Cosmos" Relapse Records
Edith Piaf "Souvenirs" 4cd set
MF Doom "Special Herbs 7,8"
The best of Cilla Black
Groundhogs "Thank Christ For The Bomb"
New music is always a solid and temporary cure for the blues. Although the voice of Edith Piaf my be the straw that breaks the camels back. Good grief. What a sad, lonely voice she has. No wonder Elliot Smith was a big fan of this lady. There is just so much wonderful music out there. It really burns me when people come up to me in the record store and say "Man, there isn't anything good out there". And then they slap a copy of VELVET REVOLVER on the counter. Well, sonny jim, if you put all of your chips on this corporate grabassery you are always gonna come up short. Or people who say they listen to every kind of music except country and rap. What the fuck is in there minds? Johnny Cash, Townes Van Zandt, Loretta Lynn, Bill Monroe....Public Enemy, Aesop Rock, Kool Keith, Del The Funkee Homosapien....get a fucking clue, people. There is no such thing as a bad music type. There's only what you like and what you don't like. I should be thankfull that people still listen to music enough to FORM a silly opinion at all about ANY type of music. Most people just stroll and pick up the new Tiger Woods or Madden and go about their clueless way. It's so fucking sad it makes me want to die. I hate watching things decay. It's very, very troubling.
SOUNDTRACK OF THE DAY
A Girl Called Eddy
The Smiths "Unhappy Birthday"
The Smiths "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore"
Songshia "The Lioness"
