You know what the male equivalent to "Crazy Cat Lady" is?
SPOILERS! (Click to view)
It's "Creepy Record Guy"
Like Steve Buscemi in Ghost world and well, me.
I got some new shelves for an awesome deal. Here's the old ones, they were those wire shelves you'd find in a restaruant freezer, only I had to cut a bunch of MDF for the shelves, sides and backs so the rocords would fall over or through. Actually looks a lot crummier than the pic lets on, but here they were.
My mom teaches interior design at the community college, one of her students gets discontinued or scratch and dent or other stuff from furniture companies that display at the
World Market Center here in Vegas. Then she sells them and the proceeds go to charity. Apparently these shelves retailed for $880 a piece. I got them for $125 a piece. I did have to do some bracing to keep them stable side to side for the weight. I used 1/8 cable diagonally across the back in an X and also screwed some metal "L"s to the corners. and used Gorilla glue on all the joints. Sometimes I worry about an earthquake and the records. We do live on a fault. Not my fault, but top heavy record shelves don't care who's fault it is. Anyhow, here's the new ones!
The best part about moving records around is that in normal thumbing though them I have habits on where I'm drawn to, so I completely forget about stuff, so: Oh Hey! I haven't listened to that forever! I decided also to abandon having them divided by genre and just put them all alphabetical so Black Sabbath and Art Blakey can get to know each other & whatnot. The worst part about moving records around is trying to decide how to Alphabetize stuff like Howlin' Wolf, Furry Lewis and Booker T. and the MGs. On Furry you'd think go with "Lewis" cause it's his real last name, just like any other named artist. But what about Howlin Wolf? neither first nor last is real, so I'd say "Howlin". So if we're gonna go with nicknames first like "Howlin" then maybe I should move furry and Mississippi John Hurt etc... It's the blues guys that always make the trouble, those low-down SOBs. Booker T I guess goes with T? Fuck, it drives me crazy. Speaking of Booker T have you ever heard "McLemore Avenue"? It's Booker & the gang doing Abbey Road in it's entirety, instrumental, 70's soul style. AWESOME. (McLemore Avenue is the road Stax Records was located at).

I've just now gotten internet back after a couple days without. Huge storm came through and fucked with the satellite dish for the modem, apparently the LNB was full of water, but has had time to dry out. Good thing, too, as the first time a tech could come look at it would be a week from now and would cost $125!!
