Not feeling very good. I've got a mild flu, I've got $25,000 in receivables out and all I'm receiving are excuses. So now I'm past due paying my own bills . Two are guys who assured me they'd pay on the spot as soon as the jobs were finished if I could kindly forgo my normal 1/2 down deposit. Both jobs have been complete for weeks now. I'm trying to keep my guys busy, but there's not much left productive to do while we're waiting for spring and too much work to arrive once again. I'm getting a lot of calls from folks who don't really have the slightest interest in a boat lift but need to vent their frustration about the quagga mussels and what that's going to mean in regards to their boat. Hoist are not cheap, not by any means. I wish I could sell them cheaper, I'd sell a whole lot more. "Must be nice to not have any competition" - I get that at least once a day. Dad and I have been doing this here for 20 years, we've never changed our prices whether we've had competition or not. And we always sold hoists cheaper, or at least the same. Four other companies have come and gone, I always get the fun job of re-doing what wasn't done right the first time for those folk's unhappy customers. In 20 years I can think of 2 whole customers who probably wouldn't give us a great review, of course they both owe us large sums of money, so they're kind of required to see us as at fault. The only other way for them to perceive the situation would require them to pay a lot of money. But still, somehow all of a sudden everyone thinks I'm ripping them off and taking advantage of them. I'm seriously frustrated, I really really want the phone to ring, then when it does it's someone who just wants to argue.
As if that weren't enough, this story was a real nice thing to read this morning:
the end is near maybe it's time to think about doing something else? If the climate is changing, somewhere it must be changing for the better, right? I want to go there.

Hang in there, buddy! Spring is coming!
Sounds like you guys run a great operation and you are experiencing the results of my dear departed Dads' favorite line, "No good deed goes unpunished". Keep the faith. Folks won't get any nicer but it won't matter when your'e busy as hell and crying all the way to the bank. Whenever you actually get paid, that is.
