About a week ago I wanted to weigh Norvin, so after dinner at the folks' one night I picked him up and got on the scale. Holy shiit that dog is growing! Then of course I weighed myself so I could see exactly how much Norvin has gained, and you can guess the rest. I've been hating the belly for a while, so it's not a surprise. 177.5 lbs, which of course is far from fat for a 5'7" guy, but the excess is all in the belly, I'm even skinnier than usual otherwise. I used to stay fit on account of the work I do but now that I've got guys doing the grunt work for me I'm just lifting a phone and licking envelopes and eating, well... So I think lose ten pounds and transfer ten pounds. Or just transfer the whole twenty, or lose the twenty, whatever. Starting last wednesday I've been alternating a run or bike ride each day. I like the bike best, I've got awesome challenging trails more or less out my front door. The fun makes the workout more digestible. But if I'm going to be doing mobile exercise it's pretty selfish of me not think of Norvin, who is a ball of energy and gives me the sad eyes when I leave with the bike (sometimes I take him for a bike ride on the street when I have little time and he needs a fast workout, so bike + erik = why not me?) But if I'm going to exercise regularly I don't really care to run or ride the bike on the street when there's so much desert, so I toss Norvin in the truck and go find a dirt road, they're everywhere. Biking on a trail with him wouldn't work, especially the bootleg canyon trails which are often very narrow and straight down on one side. And the rocks are all sharp with menacing intentions. Anyhow, today was jogging day, the third time out on foot. and this afternoon I was itching to go for a ride, and had some daylight in which to do so, so I punished myself twice in the same day! because I WANTED to! and now my legs are cramping up royal, I hope I can keep this up.
