WOW, what a relief! After 38 years I finally figured out what is really the matter with me. There was something terribly important missing from my life. Like a big empty Captain Beefheart size hole in my sole. The goal of last night's motorcycle ride was to bring home one single good cd. Something that I've been meaning to check out for a long time...

You know FastCat over on UTMC, right? She's been working all Fall, Winter, and Spring to get this new bike built:

Here's her dyno chart:

She blew past the point where my engine makes peak power in about half a second.

Have fun at the drags!

I posted a whole long story and lost it. Oh well, I'll do it again but shorter. Paul & I were working on shore. We had the generator going with an impact gun and had the radio on pretty loud, we didn't hear the explosion, a truck that come flying past on the dirt road got our attention. Nobody was hurt, one boat got all...

Oil and water mixed is like freaking napalm. Was the fire department really bickering with each other?
pjz:
That's fucking insane man. Dock fires are super super scary. There is so much that can go wrong so so fast and so many people that have NO clue what to do about it... but have "great" ideas because fires on the water are just like fires on the land, ya know? tongue

Glad you made it out of there ok - do you work at that marina regularly?

Danger! Suspense! Intrigue! Violence!

Tomorrow's blog (concerning today) has it all! but right now I need dinner and sleep. you'll have to wait until after work tomorrow though, sorry. frown

So, driving the car around after putting in the spring spacers it's still too low. I ordered some others frown . That'll learn me to measure twice, cut once. My high school woodshop teacher was full of good advice, that being one piece. He'd also remind us that if we keep cutting the piece of wood and it's still too short, we'd better take a break...

that sucks about the springs, ... but what's wrong with a "low profile"?

I worked from 6pm Friday to 6 pm Sunday on the car. I did take breaks to eat, sleep, walk the dog, and check in on the computer but that's it. Once I got the old suspension stuff removed I realized I better go ahead and clean the shit out of the wheel wells and give them a coat of paint. I wish I took...

Lots of time, little moneys. Which means instead of buying bike and car parts I'm getting around to applying the parts that are stacked in boxes. I put new leaf springs & shocks on the yellow mustang a couple days ago. It'll get a rear anti-sway bar and traction bars also, but the next step is to get the front suspension done. That's what the...

Goddamn, I sure wish I had me one of them plasma cutters! Oh, the things I would cut!

Goddamn, I sure wish I had me one of them wire feed welders! Oh, the things I would weld!

I do, however, have a little bag of Shelby Drops. They're not as tasty as you might imagine...

I have a friend who uses a blaster outside, he lays down heavy plastic sheeting & re-uses the media. I'm spoiled with the cabinet, but I can't do large stuff in there.

Goddamn, I sure wish I had me one of them blasting cabinets! Oh, the things I would blast!

I put down a big piece of cardboard (the box the compressor came in) and I was able to reuse quite a bit of the media. My biggest problem was water in the air line, so as soon as I'd blast the paint off of an area, water would come along and instantly rust it, hahaha. Seems the compressor hasn't been drained in quite a while, so that's on my list of things to do today, as well as figuring out how to service the old (older than the compressor) inline dryer. I have no idea how it's supposed to work or what's in it, so I'm Googling that now...

You gonna rattle can or do you have access to a spray gun?

I have a Devilbiss production gun, but it hasn't been used in many years so it probably would need some seals or something before I could use it, and anyway I think I'm going to paint this stuff over in Action Man's garage where I can close the big door and keep the bugs and dust off of the paint, and I'm not sure his compressor is even hoss enough to run a paint gun. Fastenal has a special on for red industrial enamel (epoxy, I think). I picked up two big cans for $12.

Ya, about 20 min. north. Just far enough away that it's quiet but close enough to where there is stuff to do smile

whoooeeee! Did you do much changing of shape/volume or is it mostly just smoothing and contouring?

Just knocked the casting flash off, smoothed everything up, stayed with the stock profile for the most part. I can't believe it ran so good with all that shit in there!

Same valves going back in?

Yessir, I cleaned 'em up tonight:

I think I remember you put new valves in a couple years ago, right?

No, you're thinking of Action Man's bike. Oddly enough, the valves that went into his bike came from the same engine from which I'm using the bottom end...

If you're gonna rent that blaster glass beads will put a nice clean finish on Aluminum, it would look more or less brand new.

I bought that blaster at Tractor Supply, got it home and somebody had stolen the nozzle and air chuck. Son of bitches. I also got a 50 lb bag of Black Diamond grit, which it turns out is coal slag that's been washed and sized. Very little free silica.

I thought today about maybe using clay cat litter as a blast medium for aluminum. The Black Diamond stuff would be a bit harsh, even though it's fine or extra fine cut. Kitty litter would take a pretty big nozzle, though, and I'd worry about it sticking to the aluminum...

Guess I'll find out!

haha what a great, little, random story to read while drinking my morning coffee, thank you.

Yes it is my first car. Previously my money was tied up in liquid assets, spoiling boys or friends, nice dinners, chemicals, costumes, and then school. So ya, it's pretty awesome

Oh for Christ's sake. there's nothing I hate more than "Verizon Pix Place." Forgot the camera but took my phone. getting them from it to here is a nightmare. I'm sure there's an easier way, but I don;t know it.

Anyhow, my times improved, not tremendously but predictably. I'm into consistent level 2 times, so I guess I'll take that plunge next time. Level 2...

Mmmm, nom nom, you said "whiskey milkshake", mmmm, nom nom, that sounds soooo good right now, hahaha!

None for you means more for me! HAW HAW HAW!

Seriously, though, I think I might've bruised my liver last night. I was pretty beat up this AM, but Action Man volunteered to take the couch and I slept in the inky blackness of his sound-deadened bedroom. Kitty got in bed with me, and when she wasn't attacking my feet with her exquisitely sharp little kitten teeth & claws, she snuggled up so sweetly next to my head, warmly purring.

Nothing beats a hangover like kitten love.

You know, the big Four Oooh really is deserving of two parties.

You know how I am with holidays... I don't think you should wait until xmas to treat people decent or do something nice for them, you shouldn't wait for easter before you eat a chocolate bunny, and every day is a good day to dress up like a pirate or robot or space alien. Why wait for your birthday before you have a party?

Feeling better yet?

Yeah, haha, I soaked my head last night...

Good stuff. Tomorrow is trackday #2 or #4 if you count the school days. I got the rest of the cbr's holes filled in on the fairing, so it totally looks it's part. (there was little triangle right below the windscreen that I forgot was a little light once I got it torn apart & also I ground smooth and fille the old mirror mount...

The weirdest thing happened last night in the garage. I've got really old heavy wooden garage doors that flip up on big hinges. They've got big powerful springs that assist in lifting that have been there working (I use that loosely) since 1945. So I'm listening to the radio, putting some finishing fiberglass on the track bike's fairing and I hear this 'KA-BAAMMM! SMACK SMACK...

WOW! Close call there! So many bad things could have happened, I'm glad everyone's okay!

So what caused this? Did the spring break, or did the bolts holding the spring let go, or what?
guitargeek:

Did you make notes of which ones to remove and which to keep?

Yes: Original turn signal mounts, side cover mounts, seat prop channel, and tabs for the fuse block, reg/rec, etc. I'm going to relocate the battery under the hump, along with all the other electrical stuff.

I pulled the H2 apart so long ago I'm not sure what I want & what I don't, but I'm thinking of doing some work on that since I've got a lot that needs done and doesn't require any money.

It'll come to you when you're ready to dive back in.

Aready have the chambers, porting, carbs, a gasket kit & other bits. Only other big ticket items are some slightly wider hoops & spokes.

Going radial?

I bet I can compare tabs a lot against the H1, should be very similar.

Prolly.

Doesn't look like you even have any surface rust on there!

There were a few spots like around the battery and above the swingarm. I'm going to call in a bit to see how cheaply I can rent a sandblaster. I need to get into all the little nooks & crannies, plus I'd like to derust my Kerker before I wrap it, and I'll need a blaster to get down into the collector...

Strike that, I think I'm going to try and make my own...

Not a lot new to post about. The weather is real nice, I'm enjoying the bikes. Everyone around me is complaining of especially bad allergies this spring, mine are non-existent and I usually get them really really bad. I'm attributing the welcome surprise to this being the first spring where I haven't smoked at all for at least a year. Not sure if that's the...
