I don't feel like having a political entry be the one everyone sees first right now, so I'm just going to write a few sentences here.
My name is Darryl, that's pretty easy enough, in a way, except that it isn't my first name. My father and I have the same name, Darryl being the middle, but I've gone by it my whole life, so when I self-identify, I do so as Darryl. "Whatiwas" refers to a moment of introspection I had this past spring after my girlfriend of 2.5 years kicked my ass to the curb (and rightfully so)--I forget the specifics, but the essential point is I decided to search for what elements of myself evolved over the past two years or so that put me where I am now--to figure out what I was. It's an awkward name to say aloud, but hopefully it makes sense written down.
I rarely go by that in real life, though; most people who meet me in the virtual world (or the real world, these days) are most likely to see me as "Darryl Zero," which is a far more traceable reference (hint: check my favorite films). I've gone by that since...college, I guess; it was my on-air name at the radio station for which I worked.
I've always been fond of names, having to use them so often in my abysmal writing. I think about naming children all the time, usually ridiculously unconventional city names or names from other cultures; don't ask me why, but I think my unconventional nomenclature preferences come from my father, who also wrote, who also never bothered to showcase much of his writing.
This entry isn't really going anywhere, but I just wanted to get that political one out of the way. So there.
