One of the first things I've done since returning is deleting old blog posts that felt super cringe. Even writing this now, I know the 2024 version of myself will go "ergh, delete" when he rereads this.
April is a little disappointing for me in terms of music photography. It's the only month where I'm not shooting a festival for the time being. The last one I covered was Download Festival when it came to Sydney at the beginning of March. However, I do get to cover 2 in May, so that sort of makes up for it.
Over the past 5 years of covering live music, my goals have somewhat changed. I know that music photography for someone in my position will never be a full-time money maker (welcome to living in remote-ish Australia), so I started to branch out and begin capturing everything I could: weddings, Santa photos, drone photography, videography, etc. It's only now that I am beginning to go "holy shit, I'm getting somewhere with this".
However, returning to live music photography is still great for the soul. I'll never make the millions doing it, but I feel so much better after a gig.
Here's one of Deryck from Sum 41, a band that's been on my bucket list to shoot since I was in high school.
