UGH!!!!!
What a Wonderful Day!!!
So, yesterday was just an absolutely fantastic day!
At three in the morning, I woke up unable to breathe. I sat up in my bead, completely unaware of what was going on (Mind you, I was asleep and not fully awake yet). All I could hear was this loud croaking soundMoments later I realized it was me trying to get air down my lungs.
But we've all heard this story before. This isn't the first time this has happened. So, what's the big deal about all this? Well you see, this time, things were different. Normally, I can catch my breath after a few attempts, and I'm able to lay back down and go back to sleep. However, this was not the case.
Instinctively, I got out of bed and ran to the bathroom. How I made it there without falling and cracking my head open is beyond me (Keep in mind that I'm still not fully awake, have no clue why I'm running, and that all the stuff I got for Christmas is still on my floor).
So, I'm in the bathroom, still gasping desperately for precious oxygen, which I eventually get. The only problem now is that I am experiencing this horrible ear pain in both of my ears. Moments later I'm bent over, with my head shoved into the toilet, vomiting. So, a few upchucks and a change of clothes later, I make my way into the living room to watch a bit of TV and try to calm down. All the while I still have this god awful pain in my ears.
So, there I am, watching television when I should be sleeping. Seconds turn to minutes, minutes turn to hours, and at five o'clock, I decide that I want to lay in my own bed and watch TV. So off I go back into my room, only to find that sometime before my awakening, I had coughed up some of that vomit mentioned early. It was nicely splattered across my pillows and comforter. But it is 5 in the morning, I'm exhausted, and it is only splatter (And dry splatter at that). So, I turn down my comforter, and turn over my pillows and try to get some sleep. My ears are still killing me.
My dad gets up and gets ready for work shortly after. At this point, my ears hurt so much that even lying in bed is too uncomfortable of a task to do. So after he leaves, I get up, take a shower, and get dressed. Around this time, the pain in my right ear starts to die down, but my left ear is still killing me.
I drink a glass of juice and take a decongestive at the suggestion of my mother. Urgent care doesn't open up until eight o'clock, so I'm left waiting at home, in pain.
So, eight finally comes around, and we call our insurance to check out what urgent care facilities we can go to (This would be a good time to point out that we've changed insurance plans this year). Unfortunately, the urgent care at the hospital near us is a no go, but there is another one close to us. So, we call my regular doctor and make an appointment with him, and head off to this other urgent care place.
As it turns out, this place is like a workmans comp type of place. That is, if you get injured at work and/or need a drug test, this is the place they'd send you. So, there I am filling out paperwork work when I notice that the decongestive I took earlier may be in fact starting to help. So, I tell my mom this as well as telling her that I'd rather just wait to see my regular doctor. She agrees, and off we go. It is about ten at this point, and my appointment isn't until just after noon.
So we go home. I'm still in pain, and extremely tired. We order Nacho Libre. Finish watching that and head out to my doctor's. Half an hour after my scheduled appointment, we finally get moved from the waiting room into an examination room. Another half-hour after that, my doctor finally makes his way into the room to see me.
At this point, the pain in my ear has just about died down. My right ear feels fine, and my left ear is left feeling plugged upLike I need to pop it, or if there was water in it, or something along those lines. So, he takes a look inside. My right ear is red, but looks clear. He takes longer in the left ear, which leaves me nervous.
His diagnosis? The gasping for air must have cause negative pressure within my middle ear, thus sucking my eardrum from its normal position down into my eustachian tube (Blocking it and causing the feeling that I need to pop my ear). As seen in the below diagram, my eardrum moved from the green spot, to the blue spot:

Unfortunately, there wasn't much he could do for it. He suggested to keep on with the decongestives and to use anti-inflammatory (He suggested Aleve) until my ear returns to normal. He also noted that my story (In particular the sleep apnea) was a bit odd and ordered a sleep study for me.
At two o'clock, I finally return home.
To top off this wonderful day, my washing machine tore apart my comforter (Yes, that very same comforter mentioned above).
So, how have you all been?
The Wrap-Up
So much for starting off the new year on the right foot eh? I sincerely hope that you all are better off than me at this point. I'm off to go lay down and watch some TV.

I just keep focusing on all of the wonderful times we had together. I have nothing but fond memories of her...It's tough, but I know that she lived a long and happy life so that eases the pain a little bit.
