I see now it's A Cottage For Sale, the onld Larry Conley song from the 1920s from Chuck's 1980 "Hail! Hail! Rock & Roll" movie, and Chuck calls it by the wrong name, I believe.

Seems to be almost half loaded now, though. Record time!

Fuck. It started over when I posted that comment.

Oh right, I remember seeing that movie a while back. i'm lazy as far as foreign cinema goes, I have a few favorites but I don't watch nearly as much as I should. Especially the classics by Bergman or Fellini.

I know you're an MST3K fan. Have you seen the Charlie's Angels ripoff movie they riffed on? The one with Peter Lawford and Jack Palance? Probably my favorite line from that was when they're at the redneck "dope" compound and they're blowing everything up. They have the cheesy-looking van and those lame motorcycles. And Servo is all: "This is the weirdest Merchant/Ivory film. biggrin

You are so funny.

Man, that was funny as hell! But, holy crap, I can't believe that you worked in a blues joint in Memphis!

Those Buckley music genes are gold!

Where in the heck did you get those stills?!
wildswan:
Have you read Klaus Kinski's autobiography Kinski Uncut?

Wow! Screamin' Jay was an outta sight dude. I love I Put A spell On You.

It's got a solid undercard too with Andre Berto on it. It's too bad its not on TV, he's really fun to watch.

Yeah, the atmosphere at Soldier Field was great. We were in the US section with Sam's Army who outsang the English at points. It was a total blast. I'll take pictures of all the games I go to this summer...so expect to see some good ones of the Gold Cup final.

Excellent! I finally got a chance to check this out. The reviews and thoughts were superb, and I'm stunned on his analysis of the opening 10 minutes or so. Very, very cool.

I wrote down a bunch of the other French films that he mentioned as well, and I'm also interested in the Best 1,000 movies list? I guess from what I read it seems that's why he started the blog to begin with?
strongbhoy:
I saw on his site he's got a type of checklist, but its not exactly what I was looking for. I think I'm going to try to modify it and see some more stuff off this list to broaden my knowledge. There's really not much to do here in summer school, so this will be a welcome diversion.

I'm glad you saw it that way, it shows a keen eye for the sport. It was interesting when we had the fight party at my friend's house because it was myself and two other friends (one, the host has recently got into the sport and is still learning) and the rest were casual fans.

It was interesting while I was sitting next to my friend watching this fight, comparing what we were seeing to what the casuals were seeing. We are seeing Mayweather, dodge, block and parry all of these shots (as compubox showed) and they didn't. At all. The comments coming out of that side of the room were much different than from those of us who scored the fight and are die hards of the sport.

"He needs to jab more" and I thought wow, his jab leaves him open for all the counters Floyd throws and opens up the side of his body for hooks etc. To me, that was clearly why he stopped doing it in the fight.

Go back and see the fight against Corrales, and there are stark similarities in terms of total punch numbers and the distinct lack of a jab, which is probably the most important punch in the sport. Mayweather is that good it forces people to fight like that, as Oscar did in this fight.

For me it was a great fight. I got what I wanted out of it. An entertaining fight and the boxing clinic I thought it would be. For the casual fan it may not have been as great, which leading up to the fight date I thought was going to be the case. Part of the reason Mayweather doesn't have the fan base (that he deserves imo) is his style, irregardless of his controversial (and imo misconstrued) nature he's one of the best fighters I've ever had the pleasure of watching in my lifetime. He's just a boxing purists dream. The casual fan wants some heavyweight who slugs, that's it.

So, are you going to the fight this weekend in Memphis? or are you just going to watch? I got the fight thread already up in the Boxing group. biggrin

Yeah, as was painfully obvious. I was retardedly drunk. But I'm glad I could entertain.

Isn't there like a gambling place around there? Something that starts with a "T"? I remember my friends driving out there drunk at like 1 in morning. I never went for obvious reasons, but I heard it was fun.

lol: that's just wrong! But there's something painfully different about being raped by an unidentifiable yellow cartoon... wink

i heed not my earthly lot
hath little of earth in it
that years of love have been forgot
in the hatred of a minute:
i mourn not the desolate
are happier, sweet, than i,
but that you sorrow for my fate
who am a passer-by.

Yeah, this new set up is still hard to adjust to. I'm not sure if I like it or not.

Anyways, I might see if I can try to get a student ticket. I searched ticketmaster.com and it didn't have any boxing listed after 5/12...so I don't know if they are actually for sale online or not yet.

I didn't even know they had casinos in that area, so that's a bonus I guess. Thanks for the info, I'll pass it on to my friends and see if they want to give it a go. Its a long drive, six hours to get to my place and then another 8 or 9 to get down there.

Did you get the rodeo clowns you requested?

There's a cold rain blowing - blurring the lights of the cityscape, twisting infinite diamond-star speckled patterns off into a random nighttime heartbreak. Technology gives the bridges meaning as "nowhere" struggles to become "somewhere" and choppy black waters pound out a sullen undulation of emptiness - a weird, dreamy reminder that the only thing permanent is how temporary everything is - just cycle and fade...
