America was built on the freedom of expression. We are able to express our religious, political and social views in our everyday lives. With this gift though, comes a curse. We are unable to prevent others from speaking their views and we become unsure of who we should listen to.
We are taught to be individuals, but shown only conformity. Americans know theri celebritiies better than their politicians. They expect anyone able to put themselves into an election is competent enough to fill their role in the electoral system. On the other hand, we scrutinize the social lives of pop idols. It's amazing that people are considered outcasts for watching the new hip show on the market, or they don't jump on the bandwagon wearing the latest fashions. Superficial bullshit, which can be wiped out of existance by eliminating the media, takes precedence over people. Over human beings, that could be the sweetest people you would ever know. But of course, you don't know them. You sit in the same classrooms together. You see them in the halls, at stores, but don't bother to wave or say hello. It's these types of things that drive people towards drugs, anxiety, hate, and suicidal tendencies. No human being deserves to go through that pain. No person should be alienated, period. You have to have seen it by now. The person sitting in the corner because they don't know anybody in the room, or sitting alone on the library computer surfing the internet just to waste time between classes. They're unable to reach out because they've been alienated their hole lives. In a way I think we're performing our own sort of holocaust. The only difference is instead of torturing millions of people in concentration camps, we're alienating people to the point where they're torturing themselves.
