yay! we got our christmas tree tonight!
. i think this is the earliest i ever got a tree in my life. i am glad though because i was very motivated today, and for the past couple of months i have been draggin' it sort of. god knows when i and if i ever would have gotten one if not for tonight.
so, i named the tree niles, because it is a frasier fur. hehehe. i have an india rubber plant named arie, and a ficus tree named ike. anyway, this chrismas tree is a baby (my height) and we snuck it in because we live in an old apartment building and i am not sure if we are allowed to have live trees. i asked everyone- save for the landlord if they think we are allowed to have one, they all say, "why the hell not?" that's what i say. (i may be old fashioned this way, but i feel like some buildings do not let you have them because it is a fire hazard and the needles get all over the building and once New Year's is over, there will be no place to dispose of them, blah blah blah).
so now it is time to go decorate the bugger...i will post a picture as soon as it is decorated, but for now, i will leave you all in suspense!!
and for dinner:
-portabella mushroom cap "burgers" with grilled onion, balsamic reduction, olive oil, and extra extra sharp/aged provolone cheese.
-sided with salt and pepper baked potato skins filled with a smoked salmon, dill, lemon juice, sour cream, and caper filling.
we walked in the icy wind with our mufflers round our necks to the live-tree vendors. it was about an hours walk, but it was nice to stroll after our bellies were full and our cheeks were red from the warmth of our home. we were the last customers of the night and i made a deal with the tree vendor-he said $80 for the tree and stand ($60 tree and $20 stand) and i said i only had $80 and we need $10 to get a cab ride home. he said okay so we made out! i had to call the cab company before hand to see if they will pick up a fare with a smallish sized christmas tree, they said no problemo, so i tipped 'im a fiver.
later folks, trim tree time

My apartment is the size of a lunchbox, but there's still a tree here; it's not the lights so much as the smell that's mandatory, and it stays for months.
It's good that you named it; if we only gave names to things guaranteed to last, none of us would have one.
I just noticed your fondness for Irvine Welsh, the Czech Republic, and Samuel Motherfucking Beckett, and am sad to report that I can't post to your journal anymore, since we are apparently long-lost twins.
Goodbye.
