my weekend. appropriately titled
the best weekend i've ever had. in my entire life.
it all started out thursday night when, at midnight, i turned 22. some of my lovely lady friends came over and we had some champagne. rebekah bought me a fun toy called "the life saver" and must i say it holds true to its name. its been since june, bishes. me needed a lifesaver. my roomate got me some undies that say on the back "i love boys. they are stupid." and i love them. she also got me some strawberry shortcake bath stuff and a pinup girl calendar. ooh and raspberry cider. cider = yummm. we drank some coconut rum and that is about where i was too drunk to remember the rest of the night in its entirety but i will try. went to the vid, many people bought me shots of whiskey and buttery crown. roomie bought me a rum and coke to bring back the good old days. de la soul was in the house. we then went to sports and i don't remember being there, i saw some people, danced to some bad music, then i don't remember the rest of the night but i woke up naked in front of my bedroom. not in my bedroom, ladies and gentlemen, in front of it. naked. yes.
friday morning i woke up to marie callind me and telling me that daryl and head automatica cancelled their tour because daryl is a sick sick boy and i was upset but he needs to get better so it is okay. they have cancelled every single show i was supposed to go see them at in the past couple of months but everything happens for a reason so is coo. for some reason they hate the midwest. haha who knows why. the midwest is LOVELY. right? right ? umm. we decided to go on a glorious road trip anyway. we said EFF OUR PLANS LETS PACK OUR SHIT AND GO. and that is what we did. we bought a case of redbull, some chex mix and threw our clothing and makeup in bags. took lodi to the kennel and we were good to go.
we had plans to drive to columbus and see rocky horror picture show but on the way there we found out that it doesn't happen on friday nights. blahhhh. so we stopped in indianapolis to have some fun. THE ENTIRE CITY HAD NO OPEN HOTEL ROOMS. of course we stopped the night of bands of america when every single band across the nation was clogging up the city. marie called this bed and breakfast and this lovely amazing couple rented to us their carriage house that they only usually rent long term for the cost of a room. AMAZING is an understatement. this place kicked some serious a. we had a balcony and a huge bathroom and a lovely kitchen and some awesome couches. we had a garage. bands of america did fireworks and we watched them from the balcony while i ate samosas. then we got dressed all pretty and went to hollywood bar and filmworks (this kickass movie theater where you can get served dinner and drink and smoke in these cute chairs with tables while you watch a movie). we went to see the forgotten, ate some spinach dip and breaded veggies and smoked til our lungs hated us even more than they already do. shirley temples were definetley present. this place was amazing. they have pictures on the wall of all these old hollywood film stars and we took some pictures with shirley temple and king kong.
went back to the carriage house and had some cake! the cake turned my tongue pink. we then watched national geographic channel. all these programs about chimps!! let me just say that chimps mean business. they are all work and no play. they eat monkeys and did you know we have the same blood as chimps? we can share blood with efing chimps, people. by the way. stop cutting down all the trees because the chimps eat monkeys for food and now that there are no trees there are no monkeys and the chimps are eating the children. THE CHILDREN. look out.
woke up and went to a little coffee shop around the corner for some coffee and bananas, and then found this adorable book store next door where i bought some things and some birthday presents that people don't know about yet. mwahhaha. i bought myself a present too and met a lovely puppy outside.
on the road. we drove and drove all the way to pittsburgh and went to see ian in oakland. pittsburgh is the most underrated city in this country. i fell in love with it. i also fell in love with wheeling west virginia on the drive but pittsburgh is this little city surrounded by water in the middle of a valley. mountains and bridges everywhere. it is so cute. and the accents are AMAZING. words that have O's in them, people say like they are british. then the rest of the speech is normal. i can't really explain it. words like okay and no. "naew." does that make sense?
WE WENT TO THE CIRCUS. the ringling brothers barnum and bailey circus. we were the oldest people there without children. we saw tigers and elephants and goats and doggies doing tricks. we had popcorn and pretzels and it was so so so much fun.
then we went to the cheesecake factory and had some really effing good avocado eggrolls. i had a peach bellini and got a lil drunk. went back to ians and watched high fidelity along with some pbr and lots and lots of cigarettes. ian and his friends are wonderful. they had some pot. yay for poking smot! we slept kinda late.
pittsburgh has an effing huge andy warhol museum! it is 7 floors and has his artwork along with shitloads of his correspondence, newspaper articles, videos, postcards, everything. it was fascinating. i adore edie sedgwick so i was in heaven. so many pictures of her. we spent a really long time there and then i bought an edie sedgwick shirt, a dvd about john waters films (divine trash), the scum manifesto by valerie solanis which someone STOLE FROM ME and some other birthday presents for people who don't know what they are yet. more mwahahaha's. oh. and if you send me a postcard i will send you back a postcard from the andy warhol museum. HORRRAY.
we happened to be in pittsburgh the day that the steelers beat the eagles. it was interesting to say the least. the city was so excited so it was happy. everyone was crossing bridges.
we walked to this incline thing that takes you to the top of mount washington. it was kinda scary. we got to the top and there was a little museum kinda thing with all these pictures of pittsburgh. did you know that the first tiffany glass museum is from there? and that pittsburgh used to have 39 steel mills? there are a couple left. i got this general sense of labor and working and people just doing good work and being good people. i can't even explain it. i really liked it. we ate at this restaurant right next to the window overlooking the city. it was so gorgeous. i will post pictures. it was sad to have to leave.
BEST PART OF THE TRIP. STARTING NOW.
so one would think that we would have just driven back to bloomington and that is it. effing no. does anyone know what the aurora borealis is? or have you seen it? i can't even explain it in words, at all. i can't tell you. it is the northern lights. marie and i pulled over more than once to see this shit. we made our drive home a lot longer but it was worth it. picture this. the sky is completely dark, and someone is on the other side of it with a huge paintbrush. they are painting streaks of bright green and pink into the sky, that show up and then quickly fade. over and over, all over the place. lights and clouds quickly flashing across the sky. stripes of white and greenish blue in the sky. not vague "almost there" color. not "can you see it? look harder" type of situation. it was clear as day. like someone was creating a painting right in front of us. if you guys haven't seen this you must. saying that this reaffirmed my belief in a higher power is an understatement. saying that i will never go see a fireworks display again in my life is an understatement, and saying that this is the most amazing thing i have ever seen is an understatement.
more chex mix. more cigarettes. more redbull. ludacris, billie holiday and ani cds. 3 am arrival. the. end.
