First of all, this set was so much fun to shoot. It was my first time shooting with AlissaBrunelli, my first time visiting Columbus and the ladies there, meeting Cherry, meeting so many other girls for the first time, and seeing so many others who I adore but don't get to see often enough.
Some candids from Show Pony, stolen from AlissaBrunelli and Cherry.
If you haven't yet, please go check out my set and show it some love! I also have a few more surprises from Ohio that will show up in MR in the coming months!
While in Ohio I had the amazing pleasure to meet Elsie, who sadly passed away yesterday. Elsie was an amazing woman and a great friend to a lot of people on this site. She was a brilliant musician and a kind soul. I did not know her well, but my thoughts are with those on the site who were close to her, and with her friends and family who have undergone such a heartbreaking tragedy. To read more about Elsie and the amazing person that she was, honor her memory and visit the blogs of Cherry, Vivid, and Keely. They have written beautiful odes to Elsie which honor how great she was. She will always be in our thoughts, and I hope that peace can be with all of those who are mourning her.
My nights these past couple of weeks have been spent in front of the television, wide eyed, with beers, sometimes redbull, sometimes coffee, sometimes red wine to keep me company. Two important events, the MLB playoff season and the Presidential Debates, have consumed our fall TV schedule, and even though Israel is 7 hours ahead, there is no way in hell I would ever miss out.
Although I am now in Israel, a little piece of my baseball obsessed heart is still in Boston, and just loves spending the cold October nights in Fenway Park.
My Go Team Red Sox set went live in 2006, but the message still stands: let's do this, Boston. Once wasn't enough for me, and twice wasn't either. Let's show the world once more who we are, how strong we are, and why it kicks so much ass to be a part of Red Sox Nation.
Last night's game against the Angels was so exciting. At it's end it was sometime close to 6am here in Jerusalem, and I think that my boyfriend and i woke up the entire neighborhood, at the bottom of the 9th, when we proceeded to scream at the top of our lungs and jump up and down. So yes, red sox nation is everywhere. we even have girls jumping up and down in the hills of east jerusalem, celebrating victory as the sun rises. bring on tampa bay, we are ready.
Peppered throughout the late night baseball games have also been some late night debate watching. The second Presidential Debate is taking place as we speak, so get your TV's on and watch it! It is exciting to me to see the nation so excited for an election. I've been discussing politics more now with my friends than I ever have before (they would usually say something like, can we talk about something else? you're the only one interested in that stuff!). my friends are now having debate parties and posting blogs and arguing and challenging each other, and it's really wonderful. Israel is much different than the US, in the sense that people here are incredibly in tune with politics, know exactly how the government works (it is amazing to me how many americans don't know, for example, how many senators each state has, what the house of representatives is, etc.), they pay attention to politics very closely, they vote, and the youth especially is very in tune. israel is a very different country, however, and there are frequently very crucial reasons to be paying attention to the news. this definitely contributes, the size definitely contributes, as well as other things. but as i said, it's inspiring and exciting for me to see my friends in the US so excited about politics. I also know a lot of you may be jealous, but I've already voted. My absentee ballot has been cast and is currently in the mail on its way back to the U.S.
One more thing! One of the things I love so much about SG is that it gives so many creative people an outlet to promote their work. Amina recently began promoting her custom made belts, as a part of her kill yourself or die trying project. Ordering info can be found on the site, and here are some samples, stolen from Amina's page, of my favorites. I'm so in love with these things and think everyone should have one. I can't wait to order one for myself, one for my man, and hopefully a collar for my dog if she gets that going as well!
That's pretty much all I've got for you right now, except for a few new sets up in member review I think you should all check out!
Karma - Goes Around, Comes Around.
James - Proud to Be...
Frolic - Sepulcher.
Delancey - Lightness.
Opaque - Aurora.
That's all for now. Enjoy baseball, enjoy the debates, and enjoy whatever else is going on in your life right now. For the Jews out there, have an easy fast, and I wish for you a happy and healthy new year!
I wrote a pretty lengthy blog about a week ago so I'm going to post it here also, under the spoiler.
My trip to the US involved a lot of flying. Tel Aviv to Rome. Rome to New York. (insert greyhound bus adventure here). Indiana to New York. New York to Rome. (insert 12 hour layover in a downpour in Rome here). Rome to Tel Aviv. I'm terrified of flying, and one of the only things that can keep me sane is to take pictures throughout the flight. Here is some evidence of that:
While in the US I spent some time in New York with people that I love. My best friend lives in Brooklyn so I stayed with her while we drank lots of alcohol, ate lots of sushi, and shopped in the pouring rain. Thanks for the warm welcome, Hurricane Hanna! I got to see lots of old friends and laugh a whole lot.
I also met Brooklyn for the first time, and she's wonderful! We had a lovely time together, went out to Lit, then the next day had a little bit of fun involving a beautiful deck and a beautiful camera. Details of that in the coming months. I also had the pleasure of meeting Delancey that day, and she is just to die for... I'm kind of in love with her and her love of Ani and a lot of other things up there in that brain of hers. Everyone should check out her member review set, by the way, shameless plug for Delancey, because it's super sexy.
In addition to New York, I also spent some time in Indiana. Bloomington of course, which is where I went to school, to spend good times with friends, big bags of weed, jimmy johns, and L word reruns. And, I was also there to be a bridesmaid in the wedding of one of my best friends. Her wedding was at a beautiful Inn in Brown County, Indiana, and the bridesmaids had our own little cabin that was right near the main lodge where we got all free home cooked food all weekend long (best pancakes ever). The wedding was over by this huge barn, it was absolutely beautiful and inspiring. It was also nice to spend the week with some of my best friends in the entire world, who I love and miss so dearly.
And, of course, there was my time in Ohio. I was there twice during my trip, once for Havana and once to go back to visit my ladies AlissaBrunelli, Sunshine, Radeo, Frolic, Meow and Havana, and my dude durb, who got busy with my right calf:
First of all, Alissa and Durb are the most hospitable people around, really. They are such darlings and treated me like a queen. I love them! My second trip was so, so short (too short), but I loved every single second of it, even when Alissa was bragging about never making crazy turns and driving into pot holes, and even when we thought it might be a good idea to prop my head up with a stick.
So. Havana. Pinups for Soldiers. Columbus.
I had such a great time, and met so many new amazing ladies I can't even begin to list them. I also saw so many old friends I can't even begin to list them all either. It was so nice to meet and spend time with Cherry for the first time. I adore her so much and I can't wait to hang out with her again! She is so easy to hang out with and I just feel like I relate to her... we may have a certain something coming your way, you never know!
I also had an amazing time with my roomies at The Lofts. I hadn't seen Taye in forever and it was so good to snuggle and have some girl talk, I've missed her. And Karma is absolutely adorable and amazing. She brought flowers back to the room, and things like red bean cakes. She was pretty much a girl I want to marry.
I also had so much fun and lots of laughs with the likes of Rigel, Amina, Havana, Sunshine, AlissaBrunelli, Radeo, Cain, and Sawa, who I also played around with a little bit.. and it involved some room service and a camera.
Everything went so great, the photoshoot for Pinups for Soldiers went swimmingly and at the events we raised lots of money for the project! All in all I can say I'm super happy and excited and ..... looking forward to next year! I have no doubt in my mind that we can all make it even bigger and better than this one was, and that the Havana/Pinups for Soldiers weekend will be something that will continue for a long time. I've stolen some upcoming pictures from Taye and AlissaBrunelli.
xoxoxox.
