When my daughter's were 5 and 11 years old we started participating in Salvation Army Angel Tree. The Sunday after Thanksgiving we go to the mall in Elizabethtown KY every year. And pick an Angle off the Angle tree. How Salvation Army Angel Tree works theirs usually 200 to 300 Angels on the Angle tree. These Angels on the tree are children and teens put on the Angle tree for a reason. They're in need of help with Christmas for different reasons. Once we pick our angle and find out a name we're given an envelope by a Salvation employee. In the envelope you'll find a letter, age, clothing size, Christmas list and a Christmas wishlist.
This year we picked an Angle got our envelope and found a place to set down in the mail. My preteen daughter Little Red opened the envelope and said we got another preteen girl named Emma. We soon found out why Emma was on the Angle tree with a letter from Emma in the envelope. Hi my name is Emma and disaster hit my family home early on Thanksgiving morning with a fire that burned our family home to the ground burning everything I own. I could really use some help now with clothes so I can return back to school on Monday.
We found out Emma and her parents were staying with relatives and contacted her and met her parents. With permission from Emma's parents me and my daughter's took this preteen shopping for everything she needed to return back to school on Monday. Emma is the same age as my preteen daughter Little Red and they became friends instantly. When we returned Emma to her parents this preteen broke down with tears running down her face as she tried to thank us for everything. We left Emma as a family on Sunday feeling good about giving back and helping this preteen in need during the holidays. We have plans for Emma to eat Christmas dinner with us.
It gets better my daughter's really like helping preteen and teen girls. That are in the Kentucky Child Warfare System waiting for Foster parent's to adopt them. Anyway my daughter's sent me to find them a girl on Monday. I went and talked to my friend Mrs Thomas director of the central Kentucky foster care system. I asked Mrs Thomas if she had a girl my daughter's and I could help during the holidays and she immediately said yes I have a girl that needs you and your daughter's help. Her name is Savannah and we just got her over the Thanksgiving Day weekend and she's a emotional mess. Mr Thomas said I have her envelope on my desk for the Angle tree and was going to drop it off tonight. I found out so much information about Savannah and how she ended up in Mrs Thomas's care. The bank foreclosed on Savannah's parents farm because of her parents drug addiction and non payments on their mortgage. Savannah who recently turned 13 years old lost her parents who are in jail for neglect and abuse of their teen daughter. Savannah's been abused and neglected by her parents and the worst part she lost her best friend. Her horse named Bandit when Central Kentucky Animal Control picked her horse up and all the animals on her parents farm while she's watching her parents being arrested for neglect and abuse of her. At the same time Child Protective services is picking her up to be delivered to Mrs Thomas. I instantly knew Mrs Thomas picked Savannah for me and my daughter's knowing we can help this teenager who's lost everything.
I read everything in Savannah's envelope and in her letter she mentioned she was in need of a winter jacket before Christmas. I asked Mrs Thomas if I could meet Savannah and take her shopping for a winter jacket. Mrs Thomas said no problem Weed infact talk to her, she needs someone in her life she can trust and just have her back by 8 o'clock tonight. When I met Savannah and told her me and my daughter's would be helping her with the holidays. And I was taking her shopping for a winter jacket. This just turned 13 years old got a smile on her face and said thanks I really need a winter jacket. Long story short I purchased the jacket Savannah wanted and she got some gloves. When I asked Savannah if she wanted to pick up some Taco Bell and go to my farm and help my daughter Little Red feed and water horses. Savannah got so excited telling me how much she misses her horse Bandit. We got to my farm and I'm pretty sure Savannah has a new best friend with my daughter Little Red because I didn't see them for hours when they went to feed and water the horses. On the way to drop Savannah off tonight this teenager was so happy. Telling me and my daughter I truly met some angels today with you two. We have plans to get everything on Savannah's Christmas list and she will be eating dinner and spending the weekend with us during the Christmas holidays and she's so excited to spend the holidays with us.
This family tradition is something me and my daughter's love. Giving back and helping those in need during the holidays. My preteen daughter Little Red said dad Savannah and Emma are in need of so much I'm so happy we're going to help them with Christmas and show them some love from our family dad. It's expensive to be Angles and so proud of my daughter's that use their own money to be angels.
I think Savannah and my daughter Little Red could be twins. They look so much alike with their freckles and the same hight and weight and both natural red head's. My preteen daughter Little Red gave Savannah some of her jeans because Savannah is in need of everything in new clothes. Savannah has no clue we are going to get her horse Bandit back tomorrow. I've all ready contacted animal control and worked out the details on getting her horse Bandit. We decided as a family we can afford to feed another horse this winter. Savannah and Emma are going to have the best Christmas with me and my daughter's.
And I wanted to mention my gf Cheyenne loves this family tradition I started with my daughter's and participates and helps anyway she can. And I think my daughter's would be like what the fuck if we ever picked a boy off the Angle tree. For some reason we've always picked girls off the Angle tree.
