Merriam-Webster's New Collegiate dictionary added the word "ginormous" yesterday. This from the same dictionary that added "irregardless" a few years back. I'm torn about this whole thing, as I'm a stodgy spelling, grammar and overall language nerd, but I recognize the need for languages to evolve and for dictionaries to document as well as dictate language usage. Gut reaction is that people just keep getting stupider, though. And now M-W is there to help them feel that stupid and persistent eventually becomes correct. Remember 10 years ago or so when whatever English grammar authority declared an end to the ban on ending sentences with prepositions? And where did that leave us at?
Of course you don't remember that, because you are real human beings with actual lives, not retarded wanna-be linguists with nothing better to do. I'm just saying.
In other news, if you want to know about my "actual" life over the past couple weeks, check out Mercie's blog. That pretty much covers it, and I don't have to write anything or post pictures or anything at all. And she does the dishes.
